Trump Era 2025-2029 : Stock and Economic Comment

Biden was smart in attacking China and planning for the future including bringing semiconductor factories to the USA and putting money into rare earth projects. It takes time though to set these up.

Yep know a local company who were part of the Biden plan all set to sign for a facility in the US to manufacture a critical mineral and have paused the whole thing due to Trump’s uncertainty the very thing people have been sprouting about bringing manufacturing back to the US also apparently capital has vanished for the same reasons

Apart from trade with the U.S do you think these countries will side with China?
We (Australia) better play ball too. The Chinese navy did some intimidatory prowling in nearby waters recently.

AI Overview

Yes, Japan has a defense treaty with the United States, known as the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security, or the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty. This treaty, signed in 1960, commits the two nations to defend each other if attacked, and also allows the U.S. to maintain military bases in Japan.

No, but they will do a deal. They are doing deals.

We are in the Trans Pacific Patnership with nearly all nations in the region except China.
The USA was going to be a part of it remember? But Trump pulled out in his first term. Maybe the USA will sign up now?

I must admit that I hold The USA and China in the same disrespect. I do have some rellies, 2nd cousins, in the USA but haven't seen them for half a century.

I will back whichever country does the most for me, economically, socially and intellectually. As I don't speak Chinese the USA will probably get my allegiance should it come to war. The fact that I should consider between the two reveals the magnitude of chaos caused by Trump who more than 50% of American voters made President. I blame them. If China wins a world war I will fall in with the local cadre and resurrect my Mao cap and red book which I proudly wore as an adolescent.

Perhaps we have been spoilt by cheap goods, textiles and electronics, made in many cases in penal situations by the Chinese. The entertainment thrown at us by the US cannot be good long term for the social health of a country.

Leaving all that aside and getting back to greedy Garpal, why is it expected that Australia will have to pay more for iPhones and electronics if we do not have a tariff on Chinese goods made in China as IPhones are considered to be by Trump. Will the tariff just be on all goods at 10% from American firms no matter where they manufacture their goods. I'm a bit confused as I'd prefer not to have to pay any more than I need to. Funny that, eh.

Am I the only member of ASF whose greed trumps (sic) their principles?

Is Vietnam a Chinese or US ally?
Relations between the two countries continued to improve into the 21st century. Vietnam is now considered to be a potential ally of the United States, especially in the geopolitical context of the territorial disputes in the South China Sea and in the containment of Chinese expansionism.

Realistically no one will be rushing to jump into bed with the Chinese against the US no matter how looney Trump gets but certainly deals will be done not in the US's interests if it favors nations self interests now Trump has set the bar.

I was just reading an article on the US edition of Yahoo Finance. The commentator suggests that motor vehicles will get hammered and that for travel less than 10 miles it is possible that Americans will switch to E-bikes as an alternative.

Also from the same source Trump has announced he is going "to do something to help the American Car Industry".

In the first 15 minutes of pre-open trading most stocks are up between 0.2% and 1.5%. I believe this chaos has a fair way to go go before there can be any way to make a decision on US stocks.

Yes I know someone in Mandurah, that had a telecommunication system that they wanted to upscale, went to China and apparently had to forward all their schematics to the Government to get the o.k.
They didn't bother. Lol
I can actually introduce you to the guy, if you like, just to show I'm not ramping my cause. Lol
Unlike some. Lol

having now endured two iPhones the next phone i buy will be Asian ( one of the available brands )
the current Apples have NONE of the features i prefer , and have proved far less reliable than the two Blackberries and two Nokias i owned before them

make stuff i want to use and i will buy it , US tariffs are likely to make my next phone more attractive price wise ( who knows maybe the next phone will be Russian with last generation tech ( but the features i want ( not built in obsolescence )

A lot of posters clearly do not understand just how much the asians countries all hate each other. Like, not funny banter hate. Loathe one another.
that is so far ... but maybe they will find a common enemy and work together to repel that , before going back to usual , ( with a tiny chance the cooperation will breed friendships that last )
