Hi All,

I m really new to the whole game of trading stocks and options. Very keen to learn it very well.
I m professional and work full time, my main enquiry that as australin resident can I trade asx after hours? Or I should look for international markets in USA ,Europe or Asia? If so can I open account here or I have to trade with seperate account for each country?

I m sorry if the question really basic, it is the beginner lounge anyway, is not it?

Thanks all in advanced.

Not sure this is a beginner thread.
If trading means live buy/sell on the ASX(day trader style) , no, you can not do this after hours.
But if you mean, can I place buy/sell order in the evening after analysing the day movement, yes you can: you just need an online trading account (comsec, bell direct, etc etc) and then place your orders: they will be executed the following day at the open, or even in the case of conditional orders, after a specific price, volume or time trigger.

But you do not indeed need to call a person during office hours to trade the asx.
Few people have that luxury
Hope it helps

Or after hours you could trade micro lots on Fx. Before you do anything have a reason why your going to get into a trade, out of a trade and more importantly, how much you are going to risk.

Read Profiting in bull and bear markets by Stan weinstein. He talks about using weekly data. May not be the action you are looking for. But start slow

Also Van Tharps work "trade your way to Financial Freedom" - definitely an eye opener. He also has a position sizing game which I started playing the other day (first few levels free)

Thank you for the reply

I will buy the book you mentioned.
At this stage I m watching option DVD and just bought " the layman 's guide in trading stocks" for Dave Landry.

Because of time limitation I m trying to find good book .

Would you suggest certain book for option trading, for beginners

Thanks for the reply

Hi guru,

It is a honor to be the one to throw you in the deep end.

There are lots of 24 trading options on the Australia Market. I think they are all derivatives. One of the main ones is the SPI 200 contract. It is a futures contract. The full list of the SFE 24 hour ( I think) futures contracts is:

http://www.asx.com.au/sfe/futures_summary.htm

You can also take out options on the SPI 200 futures contract and all ur other info :

http://www.asx.com.au/products/asx-spi-200-futures-and-options-trading-information.htm

I know that there are options and CFD trading 24 hours but I couldn't find them on the ASX website.
Plenty of room on the SFE contracts tho.

If you want to trade futures 24 hours on the main world indexes :

http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/stocks/futures/

I believe it is fairly easy to trade on the world markets with Interactive Brokers...... all from your phone!

Let me know if this isn't complicated enough.
