just overheard a very interesting discussion .. i guess TLS will lose one extra customer in the near , if not the ombudsman will become involved in the dispute

it MIGHT be in the process of losing market share , if this is a trend and not an outlier

local gossip in this area is staying Star-link is already picking up the cherries ( as many as they can service if the gossip is correct )

Yes, I try and apply logics to my decission making, not that that always works.

But I lived through the press button A era, then through the pre internet era where OMG computers are fckn useless, to the current era.

So do I think tenants are going to want to pay for the NBN, when they can get internet and phone over the air, well as someone on the forum would say YEH, NAH and they are a believer.

So will the landlord be bothered taking the cost on board? It will get messy IMO, will the Govt have to start and charge for the service passing by the property.

Just another unintended consequence, of a brain fart, on the back of a napkin IMO.

well TLS ( and other communication providers ) had better start thinking about reliability of service , out this way there is a very good reason why Starlink is very popular in a village of maybe 300 residents DESPITE having a sizable ( automated ) exchange within 3 km of the village centre AND well situated to avoid any flooding issues ( and the issues from surrounding hills ) .. i am told the service was down for hours the weekend there

nobody is going to pay for 'an essential service ' that is unreliable ( according to the last published Census the average resident age is slightly over 65 , and they are voting with their wallet , already )

Funny that people think the NBN is the way forward IMO.

If Telstra are onselling low orbit internet, it is only a matter of time before the other telco's remove Telstra's moat and because Telstra is a quasi Govt dept, will it still have the remote area universal services obligation? That it gets $150M a year for.

Too many moving parts for me.

These V3 satellites offer significantly increased downlink and uplink speeds compared to previous versions. Each V3 satellite is expected to have 1 Tbps of downlink and 160 Gbps of uplink capacity. Starlink V3 satellites are designed to be launched in large quantities by Starship, potentially adding 60 Tbps of capacity per launch, more than 20 times the capacity added by V2 Mini launches on Falcon 9.

time will tell , now the major town/city ( 30 km away ) complete with a major exchange and transmission towers has it's own issues INCLUDING in the town' s only proper 'shopping town ( Coles , Woolworths Big W , two major banks and two smaller ones , etc etc etc ) things like incomplete 4G coverage including in the shopping town and embarrassing for the Telstra shop there

My MIL is 92 and still wants a landline, she pays $hit loads for it and doesn't want the internet and I tell her it is on the NBN. She doesn't care she doesn't want the internet, she just wants the landline, so Telstra supplies it for about $50/month.

That income ain't going to last for Telstra IMO.

Yup, Tel$tra is a dead duck I reckon, reselling NBN services at a ridiculous premium to boomers & others too stupid to realise they are being ripped off, totally sub-standard service because they refuse to learn & use the NBN systems like every other ISP, mobile coverage is no where near as good as they claim and they refuse to fix or replace outdated and broken hardware. (we have been waiting 3 years for them to fix the local network which needs a new cell on the local tower). They still behave like they are a monopoly services provider despite the reality that they are largely just a retail reseller now.

the landline works when there is a general power outage in the area ( if she needs to ring for an emergency , that landline is more likely to work )
your freaking modem WON'T ( and maybe not the local modern exchange either ) also where i am even the mobile coverage over the farm is haphazard ( not to mention trying to use the phone to piggy-back off the modem , which won't give reliable reception in the sheds within the 'house paddock' less than 2 acres )

frequent download speed testing shows the NBN in two residences are regularly half the speed being paid for ( even when there is only one user in the premises )

now whether the younger folk know this is a different question , but the NBN are very disappointed i refuse to jjoin up to any streaming services ( if it won't run Iress properly ain't no way i would try high-frame rate gaming nor HD movies/sports events )

by the way that is two different ISPs that fail so spectacularly

one residence the technicians came out six times in two years , the final guy had migrated from Liberia !! and replaced a 15 year old connection .. that NBN had used out on the street connection

BTW that NBN connection is still inferior to the ADSL 2 connection it made obsolete

It seems with our NBN service that every 2nd week there is an upgrade being done.
Whether that is achieved is debatable.
We still have out landline thank goodness.
Because we are in a severe fire prone area I convinced the local Telstra shop that it should be provided free because when there is an emergency the local tower goes dead.
Last time the backup battery was flat.
The time before that, no back up battery.

Not sure why everyone is whinging about the NBN on the Telstra thread.
Hit 5.05 today, a price not seen since early 2017.
My original defensive play is now up 32%, and I have had some FF divs.
More than happy with TLS performance thanks very much.

True... Upped my lighten target. Remember going ex Div this Wednesday.
Esp since i sold a lot of WBC today.
Now cashed up for a major pullback in anything interesting long term.
