I think it's starting to sink in for some, but I suspect this is going to end badly because they're stuck with this unpredictable clown for the presidency term, people are going to redirect business where possible at a huge cost to the businesses where they can, and reliable supply chains that have been built up over the years will be lost. The people who become overpriced will simply shut down or make most of their employees redundant.

Anyone with more than half a brain isn't going to make new orders from a supplier if they need to hold a quote, when they don't know what the end tariff will be.

I suppose this will end up as a big standoff between the two countries, and how they negotiate between themselves will determine the end.
 
Obtuse all of you. Trump's looking for a big historical shift for the better. An end to the dubious benefits of slave labour and and end to the dirty practices that have been subverting American industry and its ability to defend itself. You're small picture short termers.
Hopefully Maga will win, listening to this Chinese guy at 3.55m

 
The rapid and arbitrary destruction of US Aid, the Health Department, NOAA, international research programs is the other critical factor in destroying international confidence in the Trump administration and the US in general.

There are thousands of commercial agreements and contacts just voided. Businesses upended. Valuable/Critical projects stopped in mid flight. It just reeks of stupid and unconscionable behavior. How you anyone trust this Admin or the US again ? What other acts are they capable of ?
 
Stupidity seems to be the mainstay of this current POTUS's administration in the good 'ol US of A.
 
Maybe the EU, U.K, Canada and Australia can pick up the slack, from the U.S Aid and International research programs, we would obviously benefit from the U.S loss.

Global export figures for 2019 have been published, with 7.3 million tonnes swt of beef/veal being exported on a global scale last year. Brazil firmly established itself as the top exporter by volume, followed by Australia, India and the US. However, while Australia sits behind Brazil in terms of volume exported, it betters its larger rival when comparing the total value of beef exports.
A 9% increase in export volume, combined with an average US exchange rate of 69.5 cents enabled Australia’s beef export value to expand by 17% on 2018. The prominent recipient of this growth was China, who as a single destination for Australian beef, contributed US$1.85 billion for the year, up a staggering US$883 million from 2018. Australia’s second most valuable market was Japan, contributing US$1.63 billion, back 3% on 2018.
 
Where I was going with it was the pivot over to india needs to accelerate and accelerate rapidly.

As I've said about a million times before, trump is only accelerating a process that was already occurring.

Before trump it would have been slower and more orderly, now with trump it's rapid and chaotic. But the end point will be the same regardless, it's just that we're now going to have a VERY bumpy ride there.
 
This could be the start of a bumpy good fast ride to the top for us and the rest, not sure about the US though

Another critical point regarding the unilateral immediate breaking of contacts and agreements.

There was no suggestion of Force Majuere issues in the US Aid decision (or any others for that matter) In times of immediate crisis major changes in circumstance can be invoked through Force Majuere with understanding by both parties. The revocation of agreements and contacts by the Trump administration has been purely political. They wanted to impose their political ideology on the US and world stage immediately and one of the key elements of this ideology was demonstrating they would not be bound by any legal, ethical or practical considerations.

Hence the complete disregard for any legal, ethical or practical issues. How would you ever trust such a business partner again ?

And many will. Incidentally China will also look for opportunities to be seen as a good neighbor. The fact is though that the US was the largest global contributor to these programs. It was an important part of projecting US goodwill as well as supporting many US companies and very critically, keeping many countries from collapsing with serious health/environment problems. That keeps the banking industry and IMF onside.

One of the elements in this process is recovering from the US large sums of investment that had been made and not paid for by foreign partners.
