A few newbie questions

So over the past few weeks I have become extremely interested in shares. I have researched pretty much everything and decided that I would like to invest using fundamental, buying and selling the companies I select by using technical analysis. So my questions are:

Best place to find a good stock screener:
Best place to find good charting software:
Any other good stuff can be website or software that do things like news updates, watch lists, alerts etc.

Another question I have is best way to diversify my stock portfolio.

All long term investments? Long term investments with some short term? Long term growth/value investments with a combination of some good dividend shares and some day trading? Or something else because all of these ideas I've just been throwing around.

most online brokers give you all you asked for. Software packages otherwise give you stuff that you might not be able to do online, such as developing own indicators etc.

As far as finding a good broker that depends on what you are looking for in the broker. Commsec, NAB, Bell Direct, CMC, and many more all may all give you what you are looking for.

But if you are looking for some free charting, you cant go past this...

Are there any websites you'd suggest such as yahoo for keeping up with news or something????
And are there any like twitter pages you would recommend following?
And finally is there a way to receive alerts when companies make announcements, release new legal documentation etc?

However, if you want more than long-term investing, maybe include some quick Intraday swingers, you'll need reliable live real-time data and charting. That costs a bit, but as always: You get what you pay for.
