I personally believe, if you arn't willing to look the animal in the eyes before you depart it from this earth, then don't eat it.

Not disputing that, most herbivorous animals are incredibly strong. I work with them every day, I know this for a fact.

They are pets, die happy instantly while munching their treat bucket of food, and maintain my land healthy
I have to admit that I was vego for a number of years for this very reason.
Great for the relatively sedentary lifestyle I had at that particular time, but unsuitable for when practicing my profession.... just don't have the energy or strength as a veg. (and I do know my nutrition/metabolics/exercise physiology).
However there is a woman, a highly functioning autistic and PhD called Temple Grandin, who has single handedly changed this.
Look it up, it is super interesting.

Yeah man, French toast is to die for, no alternatives can supplement here. You've got to have the real thing !.... and, there is no way I'm living without the occasional treat of French cheese![]()

However depending on genetics humans can be lipotropic or glycotropic, with attendent ramifications for protein metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism in the individual.
For instance, my wife thrives as a mainly vego , incredibly strong for a woman and very energetic, and does not do very well on a high protein diet at all.
I run like a diesel on a high protein diet, and am as weak as p1ss and up and down like a yo-yo on a vego diet.

Most people don’t realize but if you sit down to bowl of spaghetti bolognese, the pasta sauce and pasta has more protein than the mince meat they might add
There is the issue of the quality of the protein, and whether your metabolism is glycotropic or lipotropic.
VC, I know my nutrition, especially as it relates to exercise physiology. All the plant protein in the world just doesn't do it for "me", though I fully accept it is great for some others.

OK let's examine this, it is a bit hard as it depends on how much meat you put into the sauce, so let's say the meat is equal weight to the pasta, this would be comparing like with like.
100g uncooked wheat pasta = 348 cals Total Carbs 74.7g Total protein 13g
100g uncooked 93%ff ground beef = 152 cals Total Carbs 0% Total protein 20.9g
1 serving of tomato/basil red sauce 1/2 cup = 45cals Total carbs 8g Total protein 2g

You really need to take a reality check and get your facts straight instead of coming out with so much garbage you lot!
I also believe that. I think it's possible to live on (get by) soy-based everything but I will have digestive problems. I can go mostly plant based but benefit from having a balanced diet which includes some meat and fish etc. Maybe we are similar or maybe we are all meant to be like that as omnivores.
I am not one sided in this whole topic so quite happy that it's discussed actually. So far I know what either extreme is not suitable for my digestive system (not sure for others). The reason I know is I've tried both extremes.
1. I've tried going animal product free and although my tummy felt lighter, I was craving for something and no amount of soy based alternatives could suffice. In fact too much soy based stuff made me feel kinda bloated and uncomfortable.
2. I've tried going mostly meat/fish (based on a high protein diet that I was trying out) and I didn't like it. Felt heavy and stuffed after meals and took so much effort to digest it by the body I felt lazy. Constipation was another problem and finally when it finally got expelled it was horrible like a dead carcass ! So I know the diet was not balanced it was discontinued.
So call me old fashioned but these fad diets don't work for me. I actually like the good old fashioned "Balanced Diet".

Now I am happy as Larry. My diet is mostly of fruit/veg (trying to go more organic on these) and complex carbs e.g. wholemeal bread etc with smaller quantities of dairy, poultry and fish and the occasional sweet treat/dissert. Digestive system working in perfect harmony![]()

The only USA weight lifter qualify for the last olympics was actually a vegan.
Ann can ramble of about protein all she likes, but these guys (and millions of others) are proof plant based protein is all you need.
Think about it, the animals people eat to get protein are vegan, look at the biggest and strongest animals in the animal kingdom eg gorillas, elephants, rhino etc etc all vegan.
