Australian (ASX) Stock Market Forum

VGS is obviously going UP long term, and is a good long term investment, as long as you can withstand huge market corrections. I'm hyper defensive at the moment and have 50% of my stocks in gold equities and physical. Overall, 75% cash.

My only general equity position is in IOZ which is where my Army pension gets deposited each fortnight.

I have nothing in international shares even though my brother says I should. But, what would he know.

The risk with VGS at the moment is that the FANGS have distorted returns over the past year so make the current gains from the 1100 breakout a case for FOMO. FANGS might still run, but it's looking like a bubble. I wouldn't go there right now. Better to just have cash in a high interest bearing account at the moment, IMO.

Weekly and daily charts below.

Good answer.

With VGS paying $1.00 per unit distribution (compared with $0.22 pcp) it's not a difficult decision for me to reinvest $0.50 of each $1.00 distribution.

Done and dusted as the bank account will be topped up on 17 April.

Now off to go and do something more interesting.

Thanks for the info

The final distribution for the FY2024 was $2.18.

In line with the last distribution, I've kept $0.50 per unit and placed the rest back into VGS after it went ex-. Bank account will be replenished when VGS pays this coming Tuesday. VGS paid $4.40 per unit last FY which is more than VAS. I may be wrong but I have not encountered that before.

Waiting (im)patiently for my phone to ding with an alert that Vanguard money has hit the account. Usually occurs around 11:00 am.

Then the eternal wait for the annual AMIT statements. That is one downside with ETFs as my nature is to want to get everything for the previous FY done and dusted a couple of days after the end of FY but it's not possible unfortunately.

This has started to run away after going sideways for four months. I guess that's support on the way back down, if TA works for this instrument.

This had a great run since Oct 24 but is looking precarious for a correction. Maybe the 50dma will stop it if it breaks through here.

I'm keen to add some more VGS to boost my international exposure. I'm a beginner at charting, but the chart below seems to be telling me not at this time. Maybe I have it wrong...

February last year I made a rough stab at some trendlines for VGS and was a bit nervous about adding more. VGS continued on and up and I thought I had stuffed up my charting attempt.

I've redrawn those trend lines now. I might have underdone the slope a little, but the lines still don't look way off.

I think VGS at <$120 in the next few months is quite possible, maybe even in the next week. It could even hit the bottom trendline at around $105.

I won't be waiting for that. I'll put some trust in the long term trend and feel comfortable adding from around $120.

On a log scale it looks a bit flatter and over the very long term chart like you've posted it's stuck in a pretty tight range, even with the corrections. I'll be adding to this on the way down.

When Vanguard distributions are paid, a portion of them will be for purchasing more VGS. The price is no more or less than the NTA as per the index methodology. I invest on a regular basis irrespective of whatever turmoil is occurring.

Of course, if other investors consider charts and the like relevant and beneficial to their investing, it's all good.
