We have a professional army, though. The chances of maiming and death at war is baked into the deal when someone signs up. Those who join would do so because they assess they get plenty out of the deal. Usually the bet pays off well. Very occasionally it does not.
I do agree it's rather different when someone signs up when the nation is under existential threat, knowing they will definitely go into harm's way. Often they're conscripts anyway. The ol' ANZACS were different men; it was a different time, a different Australia.
I suspect those of your ilk would probably just consider even having a military as pointless. Hey, let's surrender IMMEDIATELY and unconditionally when the CCP tells our PM to shut his mouth. Let's have the indigenes perform a nice welcome to country etc. Maybe the Chinese will just raise everyone's Centrelink by 10% to ease the transition. Maybe if you're extra nice you can keep all the Aboriginal names for everything.Realistically putting our troops in harms way requires dire circumstances, unfortunately it hasn't always been the case example is given we have bled and died with or supporting the US in every conflict since WWI all for Trump to ram tariffs down our throats.
Who knows what Trump would do if Australia was threatened guess it would depend on which way the wind was blowing.

My family have fought for Australia in most conflicts since WWI.
Its people of my ilk (workers, middle to lower classes) that have done most of the bleeding and dying.
Enjoy your freedoms and life in modern Australia my family have bled and died for them.
Independent? You know how the bureaucracy works right?Get it right. Ole' 'Housing Commission' didn't award himself the payrise, the independent Remuneration Tribunal did. Would have happened no matter who the PM was.
Feel free to blow us all over with your understanding of it mate. Real facts instead of db008 style conspiracy theories.. if you can.Independent? You know how the bureaucracy works right?
Why would he do that ? Chances are they would be relieved that thousands of sacked public servants aren't joining them because Dutts lost the election. So at least for the time being the average workers won't be blowing half their meager income on heating oil to stop their fingers freezing to their keyboards.Let the '..Friend of the Worker' go down to the nearest caravan park, and tell them, he's just awarded himself a $21,260 p.a. pay rise.
Better not tell you that one mate. Suffice to say you might be wondering where that $30 on your dresser came fromWho does the shopping in your house PZ99?
I've no idea why you felt the need to share your family tree type stuff. By your ilk I meant woke leftists.
I prefer to label the woke as self-loathing ,post-modernist, cultural vandals.... but woke is easier to say.TBH I cringe when poisonous divisive US RWNJ terms / labels are used in Australia
Woke =
AI Overview
"Woke" is a term that has evolved from its origins in African American Vernacular English to become a widely used, and often contested, term in political and social discourse. Initially, it signified an awareness of social and racial justice issues. However, it has since been adopted and weaponized, particularly by the political right, to criticize and even demonize certain progressive viewpoints and policies.
Some people will defend certain minorities regardless of evidence that the minority has questions to answer about their behavior.I prefer to label the woke as self-loathing ,post-modernist, cultural vandals.... but woke is easier to say.
Yeah I rather like the term "spiteful mutants" for them also. I.e., high mutational load being able to flourish due to a society that has largely overcome, in particular, early mortality. It's why the abortion issue is a tricky one. While few would argue when there's a very obvious syndrome involved, very early abortion when there's high mutational load involved might also be best in the long run for society.I prefer to label the woke as self-loathing ,post-modernist, cultural vandals.... but woke is easier to say.
It's one of those words where the common meaning has become something very different to the original meaning.TBH I cringe when poisonous divisive US RWNJ terms / labels are used in Australia

Then I realised I was dead.oh boy
Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
"All the lonely peopleThen I realised I was dead.
The unemployed are paid, with an expectation they will do their best to find a job, hows that worming out.Huh? Our troops are well paid with lots of benefits - it's what they sign up for. We must always meet our alliance obligations. IF the US says Australia needs to provide solidarity with some boots on the ground we must. To refuse is unthinkable.
In a church, from memory, or so Father McKenzie probably thought"All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
The fall from the bed probably hurt as well as dragging the comb through thy hair.oh boy
Woke up, fell out of bed

So what is the US going to do about Taiwan, they have never said, why should they expect us to?Equivocation, vagueness and hiding behind "confidentiality" when bold assurances and clarity required for out military alliance with the U.S. in order to defend ourselves from China. Our socialist and globalist thinking governement might blow it with the U.S over Taiwan and jeopardize our dependence on AUKUS. Anthony thinks he's got a winner's selfie smile - what a disgusting grub. I really hope the Trump administration gives it to him and Wong good. I've lost interest in Australia - they've elected him twice, that's it for me.
"Anthony Albanese has rebuffed a terse call from Donald Trump’s key defence adviser Elbridge Colby to dramatically increase its defence spending, as the Prime Minister begins a six-day trip to China amid reports Australian defence officials have been asked whether Australia would support the US in the event of a conflict in Taiwan."
