Definition of Justice?

I don't have any thing against divorce if some one want to go it is pointless trying to make them stay most think the grass is greener and all end up with a lot of grass to mow and nothing else,
I object to women given new powers over night to control the divorce etc and the men don't get a say.
Mine found some one who beat her up so she had to leave ( If I knew she like to be beaten I could have done it ) which is her choice but it cost me $1 M in the long run all because she had more power then I did.
Just hope CSA never come near your place the CSA office is the first place i have been to were an armed guard stands beside you as they do the interview working out how much blood they can extract.

I'm sure it can and does happen.

But Police on the other side of the coin are
not supported by the justice system and nor are we.
They(we)spend $1000s tracking down and charging crims
only to have them released on Good behavior or minor
sentencing with amazingly short Non Parole periods.

Shortage of jails and the cost of resort like conditions!!

Kids well they just do what they want and are un touchable.
Free to torch cars, form gangs, king hit who they like

Who'd be a cop.

How criminal is Justice in the US ?
Not a mistake just a take on breathtaking abuse of the legal system in the US

This story is a hair curler..

A Racial Pattern So Obvious, Even the Supreme Court Might See It
Flowers v. Mississippi reveals a rickety American legal system.

Garrett Epps
The American legal system pretends to marble-and-mahogany majesty, but is in fact often a rickety, underfunded contraption, run by overworked mortals who are sometimes incompetent and sometimes actually ill-intentioned. But even amid law’s cratered landscape, sometimes a specific case presents facts simply beyond belief; sometimes the “system” stands revealed as nothing more than one human being tormenting another because he can.

Who cares about the US ? We have enough problems here.

Yes... but the story is jaw dropping. It also gives an insight into the justice system in the US and how it can be arbitrarily abused. Adds to our understanding IMV.

One day mankind will realise that we are all in the same canoe, black, white, Christian, non Christian, believer, non believer, and we shall sink or swim together. The universe will not save one group at the expense of another and divisive talk takes us all a little closer to the end that involves sink not swim. As a father of children I encourage everyone to focus on what unites us not what tears us apart.

Good post Tech but most in the job like it and is why they joined.

I,m an old plod as you know, my Daughter and her Daughter (my grandy) are serving plods. We are about people. The theme of Policing is "The Prevention and Detection of Crime" Our focus is on prevention first. The penalty is a matter for the Judicial system and is not something good cops think about.

Actually I'm very proud ATM as my Daughter has just been appointed the Superintendent in charge of a prominent inner Melbourne Police District. Sorry off topic for COCKALOORA as my Dad referred to me.

As I've said before
If we all took care of our own back yard and
didn't try to take care of anyone else.

The world would be a better place---simple!

"All divisive talk" ?

Never criticise "the system" ?

As long as the police get a conviction that's all that counts ?

David Eastman spent over 10 years in gaol before someone realised there was something shonky about his conviction.

As an ex plod I'm sorry to see you whitewashing a potential travesty of justice.

Surely all defendants should have access to evidence both for and against them ?

What is your justification for suppression of evidence ?

In the public interest ?

There is absolutely no justification, I'm with you all the way Rumpy and would never mean to whitewash anything. And being steamed up helps no one.

We have a site (like this) for Retired members and the ex lower ranking members vehemently castgate the Court system but rarely the corruption side. Statistically 10% of members are corrupt in some way. Unfortunately many of those who become investigators (detectives) are after an offender to charge as it's a point on the board for them. And some will cross the line by fabricating evidence if required. Some innocents have spent years behind bars due to this.

However most of the police presence keeps us safe. In the couple of days days of the Victoria police strike 1926 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1923_Victorian_police_strike) the inner city was almost wrecked over the two days.

Myself and a few others believe the early selection and training program could be vastly improved but unfortunately old retired experienced codgers like us are not acknowledged by the younger camp.

Another sad and tough story Rumpy

And yes I do remember the Officers from higher levels of command putting huge pressure on investigating members to get a result. In hindsight some of this would come from the political level.
