Well there sure have been some revelations over the years in that regard ;)

"an abomination ... like cursing your parents, trimming your beard, eating pork etc "
:topic That reminds me, Irish Pork exports have been banned because dodgy chemicals were found in Pork from certain farms. However, trimming your beard and cursing your parents are still allowed, the latter being punishable only with a penance. ;)

Just a little history as well as a verse.

Israel recently gained and will probably hold on to the peak of Mt. Hermon on the Golan Heights. This little spot of real estate has been owned by every civilisation you can mention back to the Phoenicians, Greeks and Ancient Egyptians. One can see Damascus from it 50km away. It features in the Bible though un-named but there is general agreement from Biblical scholars and I that the transfiguration of Jesus occurred there.

“And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.” (Matthew 17:1-3)

It just goes to show that what comes around, goes around.

Apropos:

A Time for Everything

3 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Not actually a Bible verse, but found in an old desk drawer in a church in NW England, putatively about 100 years old.

There seems to be the beginnings of a bit of a revival in the UK (and all across the Western world). Regular church attendance has risen from a miserable 8% up to 12% in the last 4-5 years. Interestingly most of that is from male gen Z.

Still not a lot but it is a 50% increase. Make of that what you will.

It's a nice increase; the church is often a conduit of good traditional Western values, provides a place to find partners, basically provides a sense of community etc. Probably good for kids to attend Sunday school.

But I fail to believe any adult with reasonable intelligence and good mental health could believe LITERALLY in things like the Noah's ark story, the talking donkey, the virgin birth, and people being risen from the (really) dead.

This will be certainly true of the Catholic church, since Benedict has been ( I initially wrote since Ben bin ) elected, there will be an increase in attendance in the Western world. This may be unfortunately more in the older age groups.

Just on your image posted, I do read old documents written before the onset of the internet, there is so much care taken over each word and sentence, often popular phrases for the age of empire, but nonetheless enjoyable. Thanks @wayneL .

Fair points, and everyone has the prerogative for their own beliefs.

But as I pointed out in the conclave thread that even believers in science must believe in four overarching miracles.

1/ everything from nothing - the big bang
2/ order from chaos
3/ life from non life
4/ mind from non-mind

Happy to expand on each of those.... Thusly, other miracles may seem less impossible.

I'm happy to accept that much of what is in the Old Testament is allegorical and not rooted in actual fact. Equally much of what is in both the Old and New Testament has proven to be supported by archaeological evidence.

The demarcation between faith and non-faith is as old as time.

Interestingly the increase in church attendance has been particularly from Gen Z males... and particularly towards Catholicism.

Being an Anglican, I have no barrow to push there as the CofE/Anglican church hasn't experienced the same growth (having embraced woke stupidity).

I expect Leo XIV will enhance that trend, along with the CofE committing woke seppuku.

As far as old documents , well that is all we Christians have. ;)

Not a Bible verse, but a poem from John Henry Newman: (NB Kindly light = the Holy Spirit)

1. Lead, kindly Light, amid th' encircling gloom;
O lead me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
O lead me on!
Keep firm my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene, one step enough for me.

2. I was not ever thus, nor prayed that you
Should lead me on.
I loved to choose and see my path, but now,
Please lead me on!
I loved the garish day, and spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will; remember not past years.

3. So long your pow'r has blest me, sure it still
Will lead me on,
O'er moor and fen, o'er crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile.

Lead kindly Light
