What Trump is trying to do is a total fantasy; they would have to reset their whole economy, devalue the dollar and pay people $5/hr to make it work. Either that or they would need to subsidise manufacturing, and who is going to pay for that in the end?
This is like watching the US economy step out in front of a moving bus.
probably not , India still has some skill , people ,and manufacturing base , and some other Asian nations MIGHT grab some market-share ( just not a big share )
But is it too far-fetched to think all cars will be Chinese within the next 20 years? Or is it naive not to see it as a strong possibility?
Trump can absolutely choose not to extend Powell's term in 2026 , 'firing him ' is a little more difficultMr. Trump is winding himself up to fire Mr. Jerome Powell the head of the Fed. This will have a big effect on the currency markets with the USD falling imo to heretofore unimaginable levels. I'm moving much of my IBKR $USD cash back in to $AUD. Only time will tell if it was the correct move. See the "Gold heading" for it's potential effect on gold and other PM's.

White House is studying whether Fed Chair Jerome Powell can be fired, top adviser says
President Donald Trump has escalated his attacks on the US’s top central banker this week.www.semafor.com

I recall seeing a report where Powell himself addressed that question before Trump raised it, and said that Trump didn't have the authority to sack him.Trump can absolutely choose not to extend Powell's term in 2026 , 'firing him ' is a little more difficult
they might have to prove some serious misconduct ( like insider trading , or corruption )
OR Trump MIGHT have found away to close down the Fed
What we're really seeing there I think is China assuming its position as the calm, rational de facto world leader.Fortunately just in the last 24 hours the Chinese appear to be acting in a more mature manner and have dampened the rhetoric and stated that it will be business as usual re exports and have adopted a "let's see what happens" attitude.
Same goes for any job. You don't usually need a forensics team to know whether your boss likes you or not.I recall seeing a report where Powell himself addressed that question before Trump raised it, and said that Trump didn't have the authority to sack him.
Point being not so much the detail but that he'd foreseen the scenario and already looked into the legal issues. That alone says something.![]()

Enjoy the ride:Fear.
Trump's incompetence unconstrained by Jerome Powell.
Full autocrat mode would cause a drop not seen in history since when Hoover was in.
Surely he is not going to further break the constitution.
That would be grounds for impeachment.
Yes noticed that on your post, was not aware but..did not look before to be honest.a good point.Buy some of the gold 3x etf frog![]()
