One can be sad about the increasing levels of violence without looking at the personalities who got killed. But it seems Kirk thought innocent deaths were a price worth paying for "freedom", so everyone who thinks that way will see him as a martyr for the cause.

Yes, I am sad and have been sad about America’s gun violence for years, That’s why Charlie pissed me off, because he actively fought against making any reforms.

My position is simple,

1.I hate gun violence

2. I am shocked and horrified by Charlie assassination not just for his family, but also the fact that violence breeds violence.

3. But, saying that I am still believe the same as I did last week, Charlie is a hateful person, spreading bad ideas, that will make America worse not better.

Yeah, a lot of older people won’t have any idea who he is unless they are inside the MAGA/rightwing News channels and social media algorithms.

But, he is extremely well known among the younger generation especially on TikTok, where he was focused on making the younger generation, especially younger Males more right wing. I can guarantee all those young white male Neo Nazis love him.

Interestingly I am on TikTok and have a bunch of younger relatives that send me his stuff, the women seem to hate him obviously, but one of my male relatives is hooked and has become a bit right wing in his views of women because of Charlie and others like him.

Let's be honest, if it was driven by a left or right wing agenda, he would have had a go at someone higher up the ladder than a State Representative.

The guys shooting Trump and this Kirk bloke are pretty well kids, so personally I don't think it is a similar analogy.

It would be like comparing an assassination attempt of Albo, or Jacinta Price, with an attempt of member for somewhere in W.A outback. The link of similarity would be tenuous.

Charlie had an opinion and lived his life that way. I don't agree with him, nor do I particularly care about defending him.

Hazleton, Pennsylvania is a small town. It sits up I-81, north of Lebanon and Pottsville. An old coal town, 63 percent of the city’s residents are Hispanic; 37 percent of them foreign-born. Hazleton also voted for Donald Trump in each of the last three elections, with Trump increasing his vote share every four years. In 2024, Trump beat Kamala Harris in Hazleton by 23 points.

Over the weekend the Philadelphia Inquirer reported from Hazleton. The piece is a profile in stove-touching. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The short version:

• Hispanic residents of Hazleton overwhelmingly supported Donald Trump.
• Hazleton is now a ghost town, with many Hispanic-owned businesses losing their customer base.
• Most of these Trump supporters still love him. Because they either:
  • say the ICE raids aren’t real and are just an exaggeration of social media; or . . .
  • believe the mass deportation scheme is real and good; or . . .
  • think it’s real and bad—but is not Trump’s fault.
