The Lunatic Centre

I thought Malcolm Turnbull was a centrist, but a lot of people here think he was a commie.

Sort that one out !
I guess the pertinent question is, where is the centre?

The Overton window, at least in terms of the mainstream media, has completely messed up the conversation in suburban Australia.

My opinions, though completely centrist, thought completely outside the Overton window. Therefore my reasonable centrist debates are considered radical.

Mainstream media supports this

I regard the centre as involving thoughts, ideas and policies that apply to everyone.

Cost of living, employment, wages, personal income taxes, retirement income, social services like health, law enforcement and education.

Issues that affect only minorities, whether they be 'Leftish' like gay marriage, indigenous rights, refugees, or 'Rightist' like super rich individuals or companies are really not of much interest to the average person but they get a lot of play in different sections of the media.

The 'Right' had a campaign about negative gearing in their bit of the media, while the 'Left' had their campaign on gay rights, both of which were irrelevant to the majority.

So I'd have to agree that there is very little centrist media around these days, the extremes have hijacked msm for their own purposes.
