S4i7 is getting serious in the conflict been India and Pakistan and tbh this has been brewing for a very long time.

there are a lot of unsubstantiated claims, old footage etc around.

will it be a slide to a hot war, or will cooler heads (albeit with bloodied noses) prevail?

Worst would be if Pakistan ups level of proxies

Pakistan only have themselves to blame for not containing their extremists. Although, maybe we need to blame Britain for drawing some lines on maps that made no sense.

Pakistan has accused India of a “blatant act of war,” and said its military has shot down at least two Indian jets and a drone after Delhi carried out “precision strikes at terrorist camps” inside Pakistan and Pakistani-controlled Kashmir.

In a statement, the Pakistani Foreign Office described the Indian action as an “unprovoked and blatant act of war”, accusing India of using standoff weapons while remaining within Indian airspace.

Islamabad's military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif told the BBC Pakistani forces were on the ground and defence was currently under way.

At least eight people including two children were killed in India’s attack, which came days after Delhi blamed Islamabad for a deadly attack on the Indian side of the contested region.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement Pakistan would “respond decisively to this unprovoked Indian attack,” adding that “a resolute response is already underway.”

“The treacherous enemy has launched a cowardly attack on five locations within Pakistan. This heinous act of aggression will not go unpunished,” Mr Sharif said in a statement.

no line makes sense.

I’ve done a motorcycle trip through Jammu and Indian Kashmir. Stayed in Kargil just a few clicks from the border where one of the Indo-Pak wars was fought.

Muslims in the majority and they are not happy chappies. I was glad to leave.

I’d back the Indians.

Historical invasions of the Indian subcontinent have been predominantly through the Khyber Pass; since antiquity is said that 26 of the 27 incursions (with varying degees of success) onto the Indo-Gangetic plain have been by this route. Only the British, the 27th, coming by sea, have not used the pass (though they did install 'dragons teeth' at the base of the pass, fearing a WW2 German tank attack).

Leaders of invasions include Cyrus, Darius I, Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Timur, Nader Shah Afshar (the Napoleon of Persia), and Mongols such as Duwa, Qutlugh Khwaja and Kebek. Akmed Shah Durrani, installed in Kabul, made 8 incursions.

escalation or realignment in the war stakes?..

India's drone fleet is largely built around Israeli-made reconnaissance UAVs like the IAI Searcher and Heron, along with Harpy and Harop loitering munitions - drones that double as missiles, capable of autonomous reconnaissance and precision strikes. The Harop, in particular, signals a shift toward high-value, precision-targeted warfare, reflecting the growing importance of loitering munitions in modern conflict, experts say.

The Heron, say experts, is India's "high-altitude eyes in the sky" for both peacetime monitoring and combat operations. The IAI Searcher Mk II is designed for frontline operations, offering up to 18 hours of endurance, a range of 300km (186 miles), and a service ceiling of 7,000m (23,000ft).

While many believe India's combat drone numbers remain "modest", a recent $4bn deal to acquire 31 MQ-9B Predator drones - which can can fly for 40 hours and up to an altitude of 40,000ft - from the US marks a major leap in its strike capabilities.

India is also developing swarm drone tactics - deploying large numbers of smaller UAVs to overwhelm and saturate air defences, allowing higher-value assets to penetrate, say experts.

Pakistan's drone fleet is "extensive and diverse", comprising both indigenous and imported systems, Ejaz Haider, a Lahore-based defence analyst told the BBC.

He said the inventory includes "over a thousand drones", featuring models from China, Turkey and domestic manufacturers. Notable platforms include the Chinese CH-4, the Turkish Bayraktar Akinci, and Pakistan's own Burraq and Shahpar drones. Additionally, Pakistan has developed loitering munitions, enhancing its strike capabilities....

For info, Pakistan has claimed its Chinese fighter jets shot down 5 Indian planes.
Most interestingly 2 French built Indian Rafales ..it is very hard to be really sure as both sides are deep into propaganda.
A bit like Russia vs Ukraine but this time without news taking a side.
Latest Reuters reports seems to confirm at least one Rafale down.
This is big as this is one of the first Chinese design vs western design dog fight,/ air to air missile conflict.
Most reports i have read are of the belief these are good news for the Chinese weapon industry..so not that great for us to be honest..
To be fully honest, i am biased as i side with India in what i see this as another green plague fight.

"I am proud the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision,” Mr Trump wrote of the ceasefire agreed to late on Saturday night that appeared to be holding on Monday....

“I will work with you both to see if, after 1000 years, a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir,” he added, repeating a historically inaccurate claim given the nation of Pakistan was created in the 1947 Partition of India by the British.

Well obviously not with Pakistan but generally between islam forces and Indian/Hindu forces.and even before islam was born, as Kashmir is the invaders path to India

I suggest you familiarise yourself with a topographic map of the region. As I stated in post #10 (^^) invasions were via the Khyber Pass - a southeastern extension of the Hindu Kush range -whereas Kashmir is in the Himalaya, pushing up to the Tibetan plateau.
