I HATE reading tomes, but might be time to get around to buy and read The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. It's 640 pages, ugh.

Any investment books that PARTICULARLY set you on the right path?

...so, why bother? If you hate it to begin with, I'm not confident you'll get anything out of it?

...Yep. Contrarian Investment Strategies, by David Dreman. Set me on the right path (to use your phrase), and - to be honest, everything else since (and there's been a friggin' LOT!) - has been more like nuance, compared to the underlying foundation that this work gave me.
