Australian Federal Election 2025

It's official, the member for Gazan terrorists and green haired freaky people, leader of the watermelon party has lost his seat.

The best news of the whole election.
bye bye , unreconstructed Trot

Hmmmm as time passes then those in power hope that passing time will dim the memory also.
I remember it clearly as it was roughly the same time she asked child care workers to hand their pay rises back. PM Tony Abbott wanted to be the workers' best friend at the time... funny sheet.

So there's a clear contrast... Albo wants wages up, Ley wants the opposite.

If the Liberal Party wants to be the workers' best friend, then do it.

Hmm Since when was the Liberal Party any workers best friend.
The top end of town for sure but not down there in the grimy depths of the workers domain.

I have just been having a look at the close seats not yet declared in the recent Federal Election.
Only a handful of votes between first and second separates them.
No doubt recounts will be enacted to get the final result.
For me Bullwinkle is of great interest as I reside in this newly redefined electorate.

I think we'd be far better off seeking to reduce costs as a means of improving living standards. That benefits employees but it also benefits the self-employed and retirees as well, and does so without further harming the international competitiveness of business.

For employees higher wages will achieve the same end result, but won't in practice reach everyone and has downsides in terms of business viability and so on especially for those competing internationally.

Those issues are better solved by taxation reform and hopefully Labor will grow some nuts and do it this term. Prosecute the case for a cash flow tax to replace less efficient taxes. It won't happen under Albo so the Coalition will have to do it.

One driver of productivity is advances in technology and infrastructure. Eg: some running costs for self employed are lower than when I was running my business in the 80's, 90's. Centralised wages, 60% income tax, 17% interest rates, those good ole bag phones cost $$$ and the plan / call charges were exorbitant compared to today.
On the other hand cheaper petrol, road tolls, rego / insurance would be nice

International competitiveness is set by the market

Bandt ousted in Greens rout; The loss of the Greens leader likely reduces the party to just one seat in the new parliament, down from four

The loss is particularly embarrassing for Mr Bandt given he was talking up the Greens’ chances of governing in minority with Labor this term, arguing the party was a hot chance on building on the record four seats it won in 2022.

There was no self-reflection or admission of mistakes from the Greens on Wednesday, laying the path to blame “Liberal and One Nation preferences” for Mr Bandt’s loss.

“While there are many, many thousands of votes to be counted we are not conceding Melbourne,” the Greens spokesman said. “While we are ahead on primary votes, there is a chance that One Nation and Liberal preferences will elect the Labor candidate. The count needs to proceed.”

Despite the loss being blamed on preferences, Mr Bandt’s primary vote in Melbourne has plummeted by nine points from 49.3 per cent in 2019.

Yes spot on Dona, currently the greens primary vote is down on the 2022 results, the Libs is down a lot and Labor's primary vote is about the same as it was in the 2022 election.

So at this point it from what I can find, it looks like the main contenders, didn't get the extra million or so primary votes that the Libs have lost

Putting the blame on others is easier than having a look at yourself and your team.

Greens deputy leader and a frontrunner for the minor party’s new leader Mehreen Faruqi has refused to concede defeat in Melbourne where party leader Adam Bandt is projected to lose his seat.

The Prime Minister spoke strongly and honestly about the Greens -

The prime minister had particularly pointed criticism for outgoing Greens housing spokesperson Max Chandler-Mather, who conceded to the ALP's Renee Coffey in Griffith as fellow Greens MP Stephen Bates was ousted from the neighbouring seat of Brisbane.
Chandler-Mather yesterday told the ABC's Hack radio show parliament was "bloody awful and frankly, a lot of the times miserable" as a workplace.
Albanese said the comments were "a bit rich" from someone who had been "rejected by his own electorate".
He should have a good look at the way that he asked questions in the parliament, and maybe what he needs is a mirror and a reflection on why he's no longer in parliament," Albanese told 7.30.
"His attitude, this is a guy who stood before signs at a CFMEU rally in Brisbane, describing me as a Nazi.
"So, you know, I think he should have a look at the way that he conducted himself in question time, including the questions that he asked of me, which I found pretty offensive and which some of which were ruled out of order."

Max asked some good questions about housing imo. If the PM found them offensive, then he's got a thin skin.

It's a pity Max lost his seat, but his support of the CFMEU did him no favours, it's also a pity the Greens still have balance of power in the Senate.

Tim Smith beat the teal Zoe Daniel by not doing normal Liberal Party tactics. Great article in today's Age.

I presume you mean Tim Wilson ?

I have no respect for the guy after he bollocked the Human Rights Commission for being a waste of taxpayers money( which it is), then accepted a $500k pa job with it.

Yea Wilson. My bad.

However, it's close with 400 or so votes in it.

Even closer than that.

"The vote count for the electorate of Bean will likely continue for many days as the margin narrows.

Current Australian Electoral Commission data has just 19 votes separating Jessie Price and David Smith."

For me, if no one else, the Senate voting in the ACT is interesting with David Pocock outperforming Katy Gallagher (who will be returned) across all three electoral Divisions.
