What makes you think it could/may be different this time, divs, and in what way? Contributory factors?
well i voted FOR the limit on poker machines in the WOW AGM many years back , the majority voted against it

back then it would have taken the wind out of the activists' sails , as governments would have looked at lost revenues after gambling had been throttled , now the activists have an influential voice in governments to the extent safeguarding revenues no longer matter as new taxes and fees seem to be added at whim

sure the economy is in trouble but normally addicts find innovative ways to support their addiction , but the slowing economy PLUS activists may kill the golden goose just like they flushed James Packer out of Crown and Crown into foreign hands

ALSO there is the prospect of CBDCs and the 'Nanny State where any hardened gambler will go back to the illegal gambling events

alcohol without gambling will be a real hit to bottom lines ( and property values )

That was deep, divs...I didn't think of the last paragrah. By the way, what is CBDC?

Central Bank Digital Currency ... the trend to banish cash from the system , am shocked that the banks haven't rebelled over this , how can you lend into existence a digital currency created by the government , ( which they could do under the writing of cheques ) and other fractional reserves games

well here we are the Friday after Christmas ( and Boxing Day )

traditionally a Friday has a tendency to go down as traders sell their winners for the week ( and safeguard their cash )

but many big players have gone on vacation ( some left LAST Friday )

so i would expect lighter turnover , with the remaining retail folk doing the heavy lifting

BUT will they be ( post) Christmas shopping , or reducing to help with all those bills that seem to come this time of year

anyone for some cherry-picking , just be careful with your order sizes , on some stocks it will be hard to fill large orders

Just over 17 hours before our market opens, and 31 before the NYSE , what does one do? I take it that Mr. Trump has not taken a well earned holiday yet and who knows what statements will come from him before the market changes again for better or worse for us on Tuesday.

There was some recovery by Friday from the falls of last Monday. My gut tells me that we are in for some further fluctuations during the week. What a conundrum !

Well it's not really a conundrum, I may just sit on my hands. It would be interesting to know whether anyone is selling after noticing the sky falling on the near full moon last night. My view was of a tilted sky. Great indecision accompanied having a fry up this morning, not over the fry up, over the markets.

There is the usual youtube and financial expert advice. From reading the US newspapers the Americans are becoming "afraid" and suffering "anxiety". I have no idea what that means. Are they worried about losing all their dough or maybe not getting enough calories to feed their Ozempics. Who knows.

@Garpal Gumnut I guess those with coconuts bigger than a brass monkey's might see one or two challenges worth taking on Monday morning.
At present I am watching and awaiting to see what this hair-brained fool comes up next.

I just thought I'd post a 3 year weekly chart of the All Ords XAO back to the post Covid recovery. There was considerable buying last week from the lows. We are back at the post Covid level as we have been for the past 4 weeks since the highs of February. I cannot see price for the index holding at 8000 to be honest. 7000 is a more realistic level just looking at the chart.

i would be looking to veer to 'safety' tomorrow

but can't find an attractive target ( that i am not already nicely positioned in )

my next pick would be increasing my exposure to Asia , but while there are a few mildly interesting targets

nothing seems to be compelling even if most dropped 5% from the Friday's closing price

so .... a buy back into ANZ , might happen ( not a lot of enthusiasm for that ) and even less adding for the WDS holding

sitting and watching ( for me ) seems to be the most likely outcome

At the moment just a few minutes prior to the ASX ringing the opening bell, it is looking pretty good for a green start to the day's trading.
Well, I'm hoping so anyway.

ASX is predominately green on my watchlist.
So far one buy in the bag and another sitting and waiting.
This bus is slowly starting to wind up, but not holding my breath as it is few stops from my SP buy
