Dividend payments - quarterly

Hi fellow investors,

Newbie here and hope you guys can help me. Thinking of investing in some shares that pays dividends quarterly rather than every 6 months. Have been googling and looking through the asx sites but none of them gives a chart or table. Is it the only way to find that out is to click on each individual stocks? Thanks in advance

IOZ (the asx200 index) pays quarterly.

But I don't think you should make your decision based on the timing of dividends.

A lot of ETF's pay divvies quarterly. VTS, ZYUS for two examples

Otherwise GEM, IHD, RFF, RMD for starters.

To Value collector: cool, thanks for the that, was just intrigued that most stocks pay half yearly while a few of them pays quarterly, thought it would be better cash flow for us investors if its paid quarterly

Primarily looking at stocks atm and not the indexes, cheers guys

Most stocks pay Mar/Apr and Oct/Nov, many of the LIC's and a few other stocks pay Jan/Feb and Jul/Aug, its almost like quarterly pay.

if you want to base your strategy around dividends, try reading about dividend stripping. i remember many years ago there was a guy on here giving play by play updates on his dividend strips, not sure if he's around anymore.

i personally use dividend stripping (a modified version of it that involves naked puts and covered calls) and it works especially well if you're in a low tax bracket or you use a structure like a discretionary trust that allows you to operate in the low tax brackets, in either of those cases most if not all of the franking credits will end up in your pocket along with the dividends!

Some companies only pay once a year.

But whether its Quaterly, half yearly or annual, what is important is the total investor return Ove time.

I mean investing in a strong company that will grow earnings over time is more important than the timing of their dividends.

As far as cashflow goes, the way I do it is I have all my dividends paid into an account that earns interest (its actually a home loan interest offset account) lets call that my dividend bucket, and I have automatic weekly transfer from that account into my "spending money account", so its just like I am being paid a weekly wage, accept its being paid from my dividend bucket.

through out the yearly whether its quarterly, half yearly or annual, the dividends roll in topping up my bucket, but the flow to my spending account is steady weekly like clock work so I always have walking around money, even though the dividends are not regular.

Within reason I'm far more concerned about how much I'm being paid than how often they're paying it. Only thing that would bother me is if it was less than once a year.
