Victorian Politics

Adicted to borrowing, rather than making hard choices, politics has become about who can kick the can furtherest down the road.

Outsourcing apprentice training and Govt's adopting policies, that pushed kids to Uni based careers, has resulted in mediocrity in trades and in degree standards.
Another example of the unintended consequencies, of brain farts by politicians, blind Freddy could see this would be the outcome, but the politicians and managers who initiated it are well off and moved on. As you say it hasn't happened overnight, this started in the early 80's and both sides are complicit IMO.

TBH I think the move to uni degrees was the right decision but likely lacked oversight and guidance.
As a generation degrees didn’t get easier just degrees were run that were not needed large numbers “sports science “ was one that comes to mind.
Very limited opportunities but a lot of kids jumped on it

Back in the 80s 90s Victoria always had Australia’s highest standards in engineering particularly electrical at least in training/ qualifications was always impressed how good Victorian’s were.
So I am now always puzzled how ordinary the politicians are and it’s both sides…. Strange.
Its pretty obvious what went wrong.

Symptomatic of many orgs.
the bean counters took over the top roles and the engineers and scientists pushed aside as the new economics took hold.
I was for a short time on the board of our local hospital, but resigned cos I got sick of the accountants running the health and ignoring the health specialists who did know a thing about health.

Was it both sides that secretly signed Victoria up to the CCP's Belt and Road? Did both sides travel to China, for 5 days, to expand Belt and Road into Victoria? Who enabled debt leverage over Victoria for generations to come?

A big problem in my view is that of seeing “education is education”. Failing to distinguish what someone is educated in and just seeing a degree as a degree and automatically better than anyone without a degree.

In reality education is far more specific. Specialisation starts during high school and is the default norm in any form of tertiary education.

Depending on the question, the person best educated to answer it might be Dr XYZ who spent years at university or it might be some guy working on the street wearing high vis and a hard hat. There’s no generic answer, it depends absolutely on the subject.

Trouble being we’ve ended up with people who are well educated in something being put in charge of things they’re not educated in at all.

That isn’t unique to Victoria, it’s a national problem, but anecdotally at least Victoria’s a place where it’s having very real impact.

Labor winning for running up debt levels Liberals winning for sheer stupidity as a party take your pick.
A drovers dog should win elections against Victorian Labor some how Victorian Liberals cannot.

As is the case with most degrees, we aren't excelling in many fields and are having to run remedial maths and english courses, due to poor standards of uni entrants.

I think Bill summed it up perfectly, funnily enough it is just like what we had pre the everyone goes to university brain fart, before then only the cream of students went to uni and they strived for excellence.

Back then there were tiers of excellence, Universities, Institutes of technology, Colleges and Tafe. At least Bill seems to think we need to get back to that model.

Shorten floated the idea of creating a stream of specialist universities, giving examples such as a national university of advanced technologies, a national health sciences university, or a university of foreign studies.

“Such institutions would concentrate our finite research funding and talent, creating genuine, world- leading centres of excellence, rather than dozens of competing, under-resourced departments.”

So the Liberals failed to win the election means they signed the deals with the CCP.

It means that the Vic Liberals are totally incompetent and incapable they couldn’t organise a chook raffle.
As for the CCP if you live in Victoria you should take up Chinese language classes.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for agreeing, it is not both sides. Victorians voted for the Labor party who the sold them out to the CCP for money.
The Labor party is totally responsible and accountable for signing the state of Victoria up to Belt and Road.
Thanks for clearing that up.

If you followed the ABC news then you would already know that.
Hope this helps

Remember how there were 'no African gangs" and it was all just a scare campaign?

How's that going :roflmao:

People were shut down if they even mentioned it. One of the biggest lies to come out of Victoria.
There needs to be push back on these propaganda techniques. It helps no one.

My son went down to Melbourne and said the junkies and gangs are everywhere. His first half hour spent there was watching a couple of junkies bash one another. Also stalked on the streets by a couple of gangs.

Said the place is a mess and will be the last time he visits.

Seems Anarcho-Tyranny rules. Hope it doesn't affect the rest of Australia.
