and the more placid the population, the easier it is to neuter the people and have a nice dictatorship taking control:
China, Russia, and now UK/EU and Australia

And I am not immune, my saving grace is:
my resentment is not critical : well off, and still free financially so I can eat , live happily at least
PLUS none of my ancestors were involved and die for this country now being suicidal/ destroyed by the silent majority.
I had that very same issue in France 30 y ago and ultimately decided it is vain to fight a silent majority whose only concern is short term self interest..I am slowly ultimately reaching the same conclusion here..Why sacrificing myself ?
I know all the "if no one stand..." but ...
Why do I even bother? Much easier now to take that stand than it was 30y ago after that experience
I spent a decade thinking, should have I stay and fight: get into politic, etc..nah..Elections are rigged, honest people sent to prison or worse , physically eliminated..even in the EU (suicide, heart attacks, Putin is just less refined)
Let them elect and reelect ALP, focus on the AFL results and gorge on 'we are the best" while importing rapists and criminals by the thousand to ensure GDP is growing...
I will always be a foreigner and be told "Get out if you are not happy" so let's do that and let them die if they so wish.
In my view, we will not see Civil unrest in the West unless people are starving and we can always print paper money for that.

Oh yes, especially about generational inequity and the increasing riches of the already rich and unpaid overtime of those less fortunate in order to keep their heads above water.

It leaves the door wide open for the loonies who complain a lot but offer no real solutions.

let me offer you some loony solution:
scrap immigration and net zero, NDIS completely
Put back a single welfare system and unique amount be it pension, colour skin based benefits and gender.
pension to everyone of pension age, taxed.
Slash PS numbers: automation and AI can be used in PS as well
any new law or regulation needs removing 2.
remove states control on health, education and police, and remove all council power: they are an administrative not ruling level
slash income tax rate to a single rate identical for all entities: companies, trusts, non profit organisation and individuals
obviously no unrealised capital gain, increase to a universal GST.
remove CGT exemptions and discounts but include cpi in its calculation ,
mining royalties based on earth volumetric movement to avoid the raping of Australian resources and push environmental optimisation.
add tariffs on raw material exports and reserve part of production for Australia
let's not repeat the gas mistakes with gold or rare earth.

painful maybe but better than slow death and annihilation
and i bet you i would not get 1% of votes with that program.

I tend to believe that a lot of these "protesters" have nothing better to do.
Then there is "rent a rabble crowd" who will be available for any protest to go to.
And the question in the back of my mind, do these people actually have a real paid job or are they perpetual social security recipients living off the public purse.
