What are some of you using as a home station for trading/information/research?

Personally, since I started the home business and began taking up an interest on stock trading, charts, research etc. I went and purchased 3 monitors. It still isn't enough, I also use virtual desktops in 4 layers.

I've heard of traders using an abundance of monitors with live data charts to get up to the minute updates and monitor markets/positions without it leaving your line of sight.

Anyone else go nuts on their machine?

Yes...but mostly for gaming purposes

You can get 6 monitor stands and 6 x 30" monitors, that's what I'd do. SSDs are nice.

Using Linux is wonderful since it has workspaces built in and has lots of useful graphical gadgets.

Once you know how to trade youll only need the one.

But if you want to look impressive to those who have no idea
6 monitors should do the trick.
A Masserati in the drive helps and a wife 20 yrs younger who spends money as fast as she gets it also works well.

Live Charts
Live ASX Announcements
Account /Cash/Equity
Portfolio /current position also live
Buy/Sell

2 screens and one television.

Left screen for the charts, middle for orders and research, right screen for news and updates.

If I was day trading I'd be more active and chart all around but I'm not a day trader.

The other layer desktop is balance sheet, emails, customer list and order sheet.

tech/a, it has little to do with necessity and more to do with luxury. I find it quite nice that I can read news while monitoring my positions. I monitor my positions, not closely, but I do like to watch whats happening, it's fun for me.

Well if the fun factor leaves or stays it doesn't really matter. Profitability is the only thing that matters. I find profitability fun, don't you?

No but depends on how many positions you are trying to enter/exit at the one time you might need a few screens just to show 8 market depths.
