The state of the economy at the street level

Tafe training sucks.
It costs a lot in time and effort to train an apprentice up. There's a lot of guys not worth training and others that will chase higher wages once you do.
I was lucky that I trained guys up that were loyal, but also became leaders in the industry.

Right now we have lost huge amounts of experience that we won't get back. A lot of the experienced guys stopped training apprentices. Just wasn't worth it for multiple reasons.

Big companies would train them up just enough to be dangerous and as slave labour. These half trained guys then trained the next bunch.

Saving grace is youtube and insta/Facebook/TikTok where a few decent trades post "how to" vids.

Looking back at my time as an apprentice 1966-71.
There was16 of us in my first year.
We were never floor sweepers nor slave labour.
From my first day, as was with the rest of the crew, we were engaged in the daily production.
Sure our first two years were of a lesser pay level, but after six months we were able to go onto the overtime list, if we desired.
These were good years, with a good income stream if one wanted it.

10 years after you it was the same for me and my group. And it’s been the same since, including with the current crop of 1st year apprentices. The only difference I have seen is the flood of red tape and bureaucracy.
As for apprentices, what they achieve is up to them. The motivated ones take extra classes, study harder, ask questions, and go onto high paying positions.

I went through the TAFE system in the 90s; it was a total joke. I was working on fuel injected VN Commodores in the real world, and they were teaching kids with carburetted Holden 202s. You used to get honours for top of the class, but that was gone too.

When you work in cutthroat industries where you have to be productive or you're shown the door, your life consists of work, eat, sleep and then repeat every day. Going to extra classes after work is a dream; you don't even know when you're going to get home when you're overloaded with work. In Qld there wasn't any type of course you could enrol yourself in to advance yourself back then as a motor mechanic, anyway. The only thing you could do was enrol yourself back into night school and then do a diploma in engineering, and that was expensive, and you needed the time. When you're stuck at work from anywhere from 5 to 7 at night, good luck.
Some people will never know how good they've had it.

First day and first visit to Japan. The train from the airport to our accommodation took about 50 minutes in a spotlessly clean carriage, then a walk through the massive train station which is being renovated but could only hear muffled sounds because all work sites are covered, and through the clean streets to the hotel. So far, haven’t seen any homeless people camped on footpaths, and everyone is well dressed, the Japanese people are friendly and well mannered.
First meal was lunch for two, $22. I had shrimp, cabbage salad, radish, miso soup with cockles, and rice, the other dish was the same but with fish.

In Australia one dish would have cost a minimum of $15

Enjoy, Japan is one of my favourite place and culture, weather can be harsh
I invite you to visit obviously the central palace but also the war museum.
If you have the opportunity a bullet train to Kyoto..but i read it is now overcrowded with tourists
And do not hesitate to venture into side streets, bars..you will not be disappointed
Another world

The Japanese govt pushes the homeless where tourists don't go, it's been a thing for years.

I spent a good chunk of the day where tourists don’t go, only locals, and I didn’t see any homeless people camped.

Night time is a different story, the homeless come out to sleep in their out of the way corners. But a lot more types come out at night as well.

I’m not that naive to think that there are no homeless in Japan, I’ve seen all the documentaries and news programs over the decades. However, there is a shocking shift in Australia with the number of homeless, beggars and mentally ill on the streets compared to when I was a young man partying all night.

And another thing, have a look at the population size of our cities and that of greater Tokyo.

Full house at the Tokyo Dome tonight, great fun and the trains ran like clockwork.

Thanks. Kyoto is on the list, as well as several other cities.

I’m surprised at the cost of things, relatively cheap so far. Went to. 7 Eleven before the baseball game to pick up supplies; 2x 1 litre water, 2 packs of snacks, 2 pineapple ice cream and a pack of mints all for $13.

And as you can see 7 eleven can give you a full meal , your curry , your drink or coffee your sweet..
Even your smokes, your condoms and headaches tablets...

In Kyoto, go up the river and walk up the monkey hills.
An easy drive bus trip from city

So we get 56k new migrants a month, our private sector hardly create 53k jobs per annum, and our great leader hold a productivity grand fest..for 3 days..designing how to sort the housing crisis ...by raising more taxes..cause they are short of ideas on what to tax next..
So the street is..well homeless, the leaders are leading ROL
And now we need to know where our taxes go,:
Yeap reno at the RBA office for 1.2 billions..while the street...
I let you think about it

Yeah yeah yeah....don't care.

What matters is that the valuation on my house keeps going up. As long as I vote labor or liberal my house value will keep going up right???

Big problem in a Canberra government office right now where the Pakistanis have worked out if you claim bullying you can get out of work on full pay. They got in control of the hiring and now 40 of the 60 workers are on paid leave.

Friend said they were pulling their hair out at the ridiculousness of it.

This is being played out across the country. Each ethnic group has found their scam and money is flowing out of the country.

Its funny that each group has a wonderful network of resources and people except for the Aussies and westerners/westernised.
Put the word out in an ethnic group and i can get something done cheap and at a high standard within these groups.

The other side of it is that everyone seems to hate giving the government anything. Or they shift money overseas to their families. The safety net of being able to go back to their home countries if they get in trouble.

no such french network i am afraid, and good luck going back 😂

Cigarette prices went up today; on average a pack of 20 is now $43, or $2.15 a nail.

Reports that street tobacco, that which is imported by parallel systems and which pays no tax, is selling for $7.50 a pack of 20. Chop is similarly priced.

I see, in the streets , anecdotally, and over t g e last few months, a lot more people smoking.

So , all this is screaming - why is this happening? The gumnt is doing nothing. All I see is the stench of corruption. Syndicates and blind eyes. Wink wink.
