Interactive Brokers

yep, i'm logged back in now as well. phew, just in a nick of time to do some rolls, luckily market didn't move much in the last hour

For those comparing IB to others, IB will no longer be charging their minimum monthly fee of USD10 after July 1st. The full USD10 used be charge if there was no activity for the month, but was reduced by any actual brokerage charged.

won't affect me now, would've been nice if that was in place when i was starting out. i never did end up paying the minimum activity fee (i think it might've been 30 / month back in those days), but i sure did make some silly trades that i probably shouldn't have made but did them anyway because my thinking back then was "since i have to pay the brokerage either way i might as well get some use out of it".

but better late than never, good on them for finally getting rid of it. this will help those starting out on their trading journey, particularly new options traders, as that's where IB really shines vs the CHESS brokers.

Hey

Been drawn back to IB and I have 2 accounts - 1 classified as personal and one classified as professional. Subscribed to market data in personal account which is reasonably priced, then started looking at the professional account which is a truck load more as most of you probably know.

Back in the day you could place orders through TWS with no market data subs at your own risk of course, but when looking to do this through the professional account the functionality is different - eg - when you go to place an order through the platform an order ticket comes up, cant seem to do bracket orders etc etc.

Anyways, anyone in the same situation and have a work around or do you just need to bit the bullet and sub for both accounts?

Cheers

is anyone else getting emails from IB Australia touting that one open an account with them even though you are already a customer with them. They then talk about their great features such as low margin without mentioning the restrictions they impose if not a high flyer and features such as earning income from your shares by lending them to IB, something that is not available in Australia.

It comes from their AU email address and has the Australian physical address on the email. Although it has the option to unsubscribe, I want to keep subscribed in case something of interest is sent. Also, surely they can customise it to show the features and restrictions that are applicable to Australia.

Very annoying.

For those planning to use IBKR Interactive Brokers there will be changes should you wish to vote proxy on Australian ASX stocks at meetings.

I personally follow the Joh Bjelke Petersen dictum ( wasn't life much simpler for Queenslanders in those days ) of never holding an election unless you knew what the result might be, so this won't affect me.

Best of luck being sent from pillar to post on the IKBR Message Centre should you have any questions. The answer is it costs them money.

yes i was going to post about that notify I just got
Honesty, vs my former Saxo broker, IB are well below :
more expensive, stuff like that, takes 2 days to move aud to usd and be able to use it properly :
you provision AUD, change AUD to USD
buy NYSE shares in USD
and get alerts
ohh no usd yet in your account, ib automatically converts some of your aud to match
another alert then for the commission..1usd equivalent ...
seriously?
small trades on asx are 6.6aud
$1 for us
i do not use warrant or options cfd
and lucky i do not as i find the ib mobile interface very easy to cause fat finger/ mistype error.
their management of multi currencies is very average yet that is the reason i want to use such broker
a step back but as i explained before, i have no trust in the new Saxo Australia owners so no choice
