Just a quick question in regards to order types....

Is it possible to place a MOC [Market On Close] order for ASX equities?

I cant seem to find it in my order type list at all...Ive followed the example in the TWS user guide but to no avail...so my thoughts are ASX do not allow this order type?
 
only one negative I have with IB.

I cant place a stop loss on my market order when i enter on Fx. trading on limit atm but I would love to be able to go to market or stop.

anyone have a solution?

Use the booktrader hot keys to enter "@ market" and have a stop linked to parent order.
 

You can find the order types available for a certain exchange listed in product listings then click on the exchange eg: ASX and open the order types tab, Market on Close does not appear to be supported for ASX.

TH that's great man! just made a trade +8(on sim ). feels good knowing I have that stop there. I do have to change LMT to MKT on the order but that's no big deal.

few more practice shots and back to live account.

On the product list for ASX on IB, why does it not mention anything for futures, only options and stocks?
 
I am about to open an account with IB and the screen states that you need USD10,000 before you can open it as per the following parargaph.

Good or extensive product knowledge for any product you wish to trade.
Prior execution of 100 or more trades (any product).
A minimum equity deposit in cash or stock of USD 10,000 (or USD equivalent) or USD 4,000 for IRA Accounts. USD 5,000 (or USD equivalent).
(A minimum deposit of USD 2,000 (equivalent in Indian Rupees) for IB India rupees account.)
US regulators require a minimum account value of USD 25,000 (or USD equivalent) at all times in order to day trade US stocks, US options and US SingleStock Futures

I this the case becuase if it is it does not seem very convenient?

Check the product list for the Sydney Futures Exchange>>futures tab>>asia/pacific.

Yep,

It certainly is, but i think if you're under a certain age you can set up with less, not 100% on that bit.
 
If 21 or under you can open with 3500 equiv base currency...so 3500AUD should be sufficient?

I opened with more than that but under 10k AUD/USD so not sure on exact AUD equivalent

Thanks for the replies. Does that mean you transfer the money in at the opening of the account and once it is set up you can move it all back to yuor bank account and only move back in what you want to trade or do you always have to have the AUD10,000 sitting there?
 
Once the account is opened you only need to keep minimum of USD$2000 or equivalent, as balance below that will attract an activity fee
 
Interactive Brokers are a great broker.

I was playing around on BookTrader on the sim acc.

any new members a sim acc is a must as trying new things on live acc could be very costly...

it's a hoot..... more like a comp game then trading! you can place orders and take market on the prices while making sure there is enough liquidity at that level.

I don't use this to trade but it's fun to play around on it.

Not being able to access TWS on the weekend is a pain. Why IB?

Time to get another datafeed I think.
 
Hi Guys

Quick question regarding typhoon warning in Hong Kong, if it reaches level 8 does this affect IB and its service? Anyone know?

I am having some trouble trying to figure out how to obtain dividend information from IB. Does anyone know how to get the full information of dividends that are paid?
i.e. "unfranked amount", "franked amount" and "franking credit" (this would normally be mailed if using a traditional broker)

In Account Management->Tax forms, the only info provided is 'Gross in Base' and Withhold amount'.
Where do I get the other bits of info from (which I will need this for tax return.)

Any answers would be very greatly appreciated.
 

sorry for the late reply. You can't place a MOC on the ASX as IB's system is not active during the pre/post market auction period. You'll need another data source which is active during that period. I use paritech pulse but you can use any other platform. Put a buy above the market and you'll be filled. If it's too far away from the open, then you'll need to ring them to expand the vetting if it's over 5% during the day.

IB's vetting is getting more ridiculous today. Something over 5% because of volume and you'll need to call.

Yes it is. I use it almost every day.

What is doesn't do is facilitate a MOC order, which is different.
