After her vehicle broke down or got bogged (have heard both scenarios) German backpacker Carolina Wilga some how survived 12 days on foot East of Beacon, a small country town in the eastern wheatbelt of WA.
I know a little bit of this area and it is not somewhere I would be taking a vehicle on my own and not having a Sat Phone.
This young lady is extremely lucky to be alive.
No-one knew where she was, so it is obviously her travel plans were kept to herself.

Wow great news nice to get a good news story was worried something untoward may have happened

That is great new.

I've always been told that if something like that happens , stay with your vehicle and start a fire (providing you can contain it).

Maybe there is a place for survival classes at tech.

More appropriately perhaps for backpackers who want to venture into the hinterland with little to no knowledge of what lies out there.

More news of the German backpacker, Carolina Wilga, on how she survived 12 days in the WA Outback.
Managed to find water in pools to drink, and somehow found a cave of sorts to get shelter in.
Had some common sense by using the Sun and waking in a Westerly direction in the hope of finding a road.
Fortunately for her, a local farmer came across her on the road where she was standing, and she was then rescued.
She is currently be cared for by the nursing staff at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
One very, very lucky young lady.

It will be interesting to hear her story.

The aerial photos of her vehicle show it in a very odd location, surrounded by thick bush on three sides. What was it doing?

It was an absolute miracle she was picked up when she was. That was a real outback "no traffic" road.

Shows what a tenacious attitude will get you. Life !!

outback ?
Beacon, a small country town in the eastern wheatbelt of WA. 3 and a bit hrs from Perth

This still doesn't add up. She was in a state of confusion after hitting her head, but was still able to deploy recovery boards and attempt to get the vehicle out.

On the edge of the wheat belt marginal country, station country and gold fields next door, she was very lucky to find water dry as normally.
Spot on, there isn't a lot of people, or traffic North of Beacon.

Strange she headed West, rather than back down the road she drove up on.

Where she did head off to there is a lot of nothing, lucky it wasn't summer, she would have been done in a couple of days.

Like everyone says, extremely lucky and IMO an extremely silly girl, heading out bush anywhere on W.A ill prepared is a dangerous hobby.
Lots have died doing the same thing.
Minimum communication equipment should be an old hf set ( cheap as chips) or rent a sat phone if you can afford it.
Luckily it wont be long before Australia gets full phone coverage, as the low orbit satelite internet infrastructure systems deploy.

None of her story really makes any sense.
Driving off into a virtually uninhabited national park, in what looks to be a 2 wheel drive vehicle.
A massive effort by people and their time to try and find her.
What will come next?
A book or film!!!!
How I survived in the rugged outback of WA being foolish or not.
