Australian Federal Election 2025

Well I did say he was unelectable, like silly Billie.

The good thing is, we will get to see some great theatre next term, it should be epic IMO.
Dutton reputably is a really nice bloke and liked within the Liberal party unlike Morrison who was unpopular with the other MPs.
He has got a bit of baggage though like you say.

Generally, I just think the Libs don't look ready.

Their gas plan is half baked, they don't seem to have any exciting policies to change things, the public service working from home fiasco - If it was was Howard he would have had clear arguments and been able to argue the case. The shadow ministers have generally been poor speakers.

I heard one of them today talk about the carbon emissions and he was clear about 2030, 2035 and 2050 and the public service plans and the commentators were all saying why can't the rest of them be clear instead of obfuscating.

Their treasurer Angus Taylor is B team standard. He could mount some arguments but just comes across as a whinger with no solutions. He has generally been hopeless. Honestly they need someone else.

And finally, the Trump instability gives the incumbents the advantage which is unfortunate for Dutton.

Apparently, Dutton is at some risk of losing his seat, he only holds it on a 1.7% margin.

If he gets into Parliament but not government I expect an early exit and a job with Gina.

I agree with you Knobby, Angus taylor really isn't ministerial level IMO, the biggest problem the coalition had was losing Morrison and Frydenberg, as you say Morrison wasn't liked by the other MP's or by the media.

IMO Morrison was an extremely quick thinker and very smart, the problem was IMO he had an extremely unpleasant personality and couldn't hide his arrogance, but he ran circles around the media presenters and they hated that.

Frydenberg was another quick thinking high performer, but a very quiet reserved nature, not a good fit for politics IMO. He is probably doing great in the private sector.

Dutton might be a really nice guy, but not an easy sell, doesn't come across as being on top of the issues.
Nuclear is a hard sell and an impossible sell for someone who really has no background in power generation, it was a strange issue to push when there is no obvious crisis in the power system yet.

It kind of shows that they have no plan as to where to head with things, I would have thought they could have put together a campaign just on labors lack of headway in any of their agenda's, the fact they haven't shows a lack of awareness IMO.

Labor just seem to have better talent at the moment, whether they are up to the job, time will tell.

i do think Trump blowing the world order up, will be a good thing for Australia, we are a growing country so we can adapt. The Trump fallout will mean politicians will have to work a lot harder and be a lot smarter.
At the moment politics seems to carry a lot of people, who just want to sit quietly for a couple of terms and earn good money, those days are over IMO.

I know she hires a lot of the women, not sure about the men. Does suck a bit.
I would have though Dutton could do better elsewhere. he is more practical and has better experience than most of them.

Dutton is always at risk of losing his seat. he didn't get the silver spoon of some of them.

One thing does surprise me with the Libs. Apparently Labour, Greens and the Libs were going to promise support for Home Batteries in this election campaign. It is just too useful/politically expedient not to do so.

Greens kicked off with their policy. Labour followed with theirs and has recieved a lot of favourable comment. What has happened to the Libs ?

To date however Peter Dutton seems to have simply trashed the idea !! Would make it difficult for him to then come up with his "own"battery support scheme.

Election 2025: Peter Dutton rubbishes Labor's household battery plan

5 days agoPeter Dutton says Labor's plan to offer households and small businesses a 30 per cent subsidy for battery systems confirms that electricity prices will rise further under a second-term Albanese ...

I'm not a fan of Albanese, but Dutton's constant calling him weak and the government our worst ever is wearing very thin.

I understand that as opposition leader he should be criticizing the government, but in the lead up to an election he has to come up with alternatives as well. What he has offered so far is rubbish.

Every time I see him on TV, he is pumping fuel. Is he getting some practice in for a job after the election?

IMO the problem the left leaning Govt's have, they usually come up with great social agendas, but don't come up with ways to fund them.

The problem with the right leaning Govts is, they come up with ways to find work for people that actually don't want it.

So flipping them is the only way we get a balance, the current Govt has pumped inflation to increase the tax take and run a budget surplus.

The opposition hasn't really got an agenda, so therefore the current Govt gets back in, as there isn't a reason to vote for the opposition.

Oppositions seldom win Govt, the sitting Govt usually has to give voters a reason to vote them out.
Well that's my take on it.

But I think things will change during the next election cycle,
IMO there will be a lot of external issues and home based issues that will challenge the politicians and I think many will want to jump ship. LOL

Yes, it's easy to talk tough when there is no responsibility to act.

Dutton is all bluff and bluster and very little constructive policy in my opinion.

Dutton's plans to wind back some of Labor's better policies like vehicle efficiency really irk me.
Irks me as well.
Paraphrasing " We are all for vehicle efficiency but Labor's way is not the right way to do this"

Well the obvious next question is what he would do? All negative no answers.

We import 90% of our fuel and cannot rely in this changing world to be too reliant on it. No big thinking. No policy....doesn't deserve to win election.

@Knobby22 typical Liberal thinking that they are born to rule but only offer negativity and nothing of substance.
Looking at a third party to vote for in the coming election, one that actually answers our questions that we e-mailed to all 3 some time ago.
Red and Blue have not bothered to reply.

Don't hold your breath, last election I sent several emails to my local member.

Crickets.

Please get the tissues out, some heart rendering news. The Liberal candidate for Kooyong, a nepo baby from the Hamer dynasty is running on a help the renter ticket. From the Saturday Paper.

I feel for her. She wants to buy a house in Melbourne but if she doesn't get in what will she do with it? Hard to manage from London.
