Australian Federal Election 2025

Are we seeing the beginning of the end of the Greens, as we did with the Democrats?

There is a clear sign of structural, strategic failure that could be the beginning of the end for the Greens as they follow the historical trajectory of other minor parties and independent groupings that have overreached, faltered, failed and disappeared. Who remembers the Australian Democrats?
Bandt’s attempts to blame major party conspiracies and preference flows to explain away the loss do not stand up to scrutiny, nor do they address the real reasons for failure – the Greens turning away from the fundamentals of their environmental foundations, a sympathy for extremist behaviour and radical economic policies that have alienated Australian voters.
It all adds up to decline and fall for the Greens.

There is probably still support for the environmental side of the Greens, but if they continue their identity politics and far Left economic ideas then they lose people imo.

Perhaps the greens should align themselves with a former English party founded by Screaming Lord Such, the Mad, Raving Loony Party.

A good article on the ABC website, covering the problem I mentioned, where both major parties are having trouble with voter disenchantment.
The article includes graphical representations.

Labor’s landslide victory obscures a disturbing trend for the major parties

Labor took the glory in last weekend’s election, but beneath the surface an ongoing trend in how Australia votes has quietly carried on.

The major parties’ primary vote has, once again, fallen.

In fact, there is a strong chance that the combined independent and minor party vote will beat one of the major parties for the first time in seven decades.

But are the 2 major parties really taking it seriously, when they are pretty sure that preferences will get them over the line.

Yes that's the problem really.

Maybe our whole system of voting needs looking at, but that will never happen while the 2 major parties occupy most the of the seats in the House.

Well Sir R the end result though not yet 100% definite is clear that the majors will do next to naught in the present climate.
Perhaps if they are getting the number of seats that their primary votes indicate then change would be in the air.
But with next to no opposition the 2 majors have it sown up

The problem is, the general public obviously aren't happy with the direction the major parties are taking, they need to actually find out what the people want, rather than listening to their respective echo chambers and rusted on followers.
These three captions from the article, highlight the problem that the major parties have and both parties have the same underlying problem IMO.
Out of touch, with middle Australia.

Maybe a fair voting system would mean that if Independents got 30% of the votes, they would get 30% of the seats. Obviously it doesn't work that way, which is why the Senate is possibly a better reflection of the voter's will, which is why I said before that the Teals should have gone for the Senate not the Reps.

Labor just won the most seats ever in their history surpassing Hawke and destroyed the Liberals and the Greens. I don't think they are going that badly.

Sure the independents are doing OK and reducing the msjor party proportions but mainly in ex Liberal seats.

It's the Libs and the Greens that need a rethink of direction.

Well even die hard Labor stalwarts, think it isn't great.

The seat numbers are brilliant, however the fact there wasn't a huge swing in primary votes, shows not many are converted or enthused.

The results show the Libs were on the nose, so Independents and Pauline, got disenchanted Liberal votes.

The good thing is, Labor will still be nervous, despite romping it in.

The move to independents is a move to moderates, climate change etc used to be middle ground the right now call this Marxism or other extreme labels.

This used to be Liberal territory and or Greens.

Howard often talked the "Broad Church" to get elected but side lined moderates and handed power to the hard right in regards to policy.

After being done over for so long we now have Teals / Pocock etc.

Jacinda Price wont fix this.

Neither will comments like this.

Australians think we are mean’: Senior Liberal’s blistering election assessment

One of the most senior women in the Coalition has issued a blistering assessment of the party’s current state and fired a broadside at two former leaders over their comments about multiculturalism.

Regarding Jacinta Price:

At least Jacinda Price will give indigenous people a stage, whether the left like her or not, she is the best chance of indigenous australians have of gaining credibility.

Representation like Lidia Thorpe may be entertaining, but it does little to further the cause or credibility, which is exactly what needs to happen IMO.

Like her or not, Jacinta actually is one of the only indigenous leaders who has the national stage and it is only there that any traction for the cause can be gained with the general population.

Some don't like what she has to say, but sometimes the truth hurts and unless the truth is laid bare nothing will change, because at the end of the day nothing much has changed, no matter how much money or good intent has been thrown at it.

IMO the interesting thing will be, how long it is before the left wing media go feral on her and try to destroy her career.

It would be great, if the media muppets, spent as much time out the bush reporting on the ground as they do talking nonsense in Sydney or Melbourne media factories.
