Australian Federal Election 2025

Sorry, but Angus is a dill.

The only Lib who impresses me is Hastie. He's a straight talker and tough as well. He'll need to be because he won't get a shot at being PM for at least six years.

Hes also one of the few Libs who had a swing towards them.

With respect I strongly disagree.
They didn't offer a centre right alternative.

Why have more of the former very safe wealthy seats gone teal? If Australia is so socialist why have the Greens gone backwards and One Nation done so well?

They promised the same as Labor except with some one off yearly promises, no tax cut and to put Australia more into debt than Labor.

They have to start treating the Australian electorate as intelligent and offer an alternative..

Absolutely, then they have two terms of Govrrnment and can't blame anyone else for the outcomes, which will be brilliant.

It doesn't get better than this IMO.
Yes, best possible result imo.

With a big majority they can get on with reforms that they really want to do but were too scared of being wedged on before.

The Senate may be a problem yet again unfortunately.

Sorry, but Angus is a dill.

Interesting assertion...... considering he was a Rhodes Scholar

Regarding Hastie, I don't know much about the guy. But if he is tough and straight talking he'll need to rein those healthy instincts in lol. Dutton was definitely tough, and usually straight talking, and it sadly wasn't enough to ouster the Albo and Penny circus. I guess the people tend to get the leaders they deserve.

Was hoping for a Labor win but not with this sort of majority. We are stuck with them for 6 years. No one's going to take 35-40 seats off them in one election.

They need a credible opposition to hold them to account - otherwise the country suffers.

Melissa McIntosh should be the Liberal leader. It's a wild card but she holds Lindsay in West Sydney, defends it every time and that reflects on neighbouring seats

Labor picked up seats in QLD. Was that due to Jim Chalmers or the Albo govt response to the floods ?

Duttons' speech was decent. Penny Wongs' was not. Why do they roll her out ? She didn't win the election, Albo did.

Liberals need to go back to the centre and stop bashing workers rights such as penalty rates, right to disconnect and work from home.

Memo to Jacinta Price. Australia is already great, jackass

Yes, I'm starting to wonder about that.

Tony Abbott was as well, maybe it's a case of all theory without a practical sense of implementation or understanding of zeitgeist.

Yup, I appreciate the riffing on the question of academic accolades versus more multifactorial concepts of intelligence, but still I expect he (and Abbott) won their scholarships for real, in a highly competitive environment. Whereas in more modern times you'd be forgiven for wondering if a recipient was just handed it for DEI reasons hehehe. In other words, Taylor is no "dill"!

Hastie (my local member) is a very big part of the Liberals problem religious hard right.

They have destroyed WA's Liberal party and infest the federal party, long held way to much power for their numbers.

Hey Pzzzz .... I'd say they wheeled out Penny because she's not Tanya.

Already there's hands in Canberra reaching for a dusty copy of the 'Henry Tax Review' .

Jacinta's star is fading.

I'll take this opportunity to put a call out to anyone of the other 'mad uncles' of these forums who has a recording of the Sky Election night coverage... I muffed the settings on the VHS, bedded down at 6:30 with a Horlicks only to wake this morning not knowing how to feel.
Andrew, Richo, Peta, is there a Darkness After this or is it pitch black? Meat ball Murray can we hear from you in a hurry?

Yeah they all laid into Murray Watt didn't they ? hahaha

BTW, all those idiots complaining about ALP lying their way into office, enjoy the taste of your own "death tax" medicine

Still waiting on results but it looks like the Greens got a spanking. Thank goodness.

The Greens are not the party that I grew up with in the 80’s.

Hopefully Adam Bandt loses his seat and the party does some soul searching.
Went to the AEC site, he is in trouble. Depends on postal votes. Hopefully they don't favour him.
I've met him, nice bloke but really think his politics suck.

Labor aren't immune, looks like they are losing a seat in Canberra to an independent.

One more Teal looks like getting in a, Bradfield, NSW.

And goodbye to Antony Green. He is retiring. No one calls the election with conviction till he does. They showed him calling it in the Liberal tally room. Legend.

Yes, they lost of couple of potential leaders this election. It reminds me of what happened in Victoria. They might need to parachute someone in.
Maybe the former Lord Mayor of Perth and now the current Leader of what is left of the Lib Opposition here in WA could be a possibility.
Basil was anointed before he was even a winner in the State Election.

My electorate of Bean. The major issue I perceived with David Smith from various quarters wasn't Labor's policies as such but that he was unseen and did little for the electorate he was to represent i.e. work for your electorate and don't accept it as a sinecure. That possibly worked in Jessie Price's favour. There is currently a 13% swing away from Labor. However, it's close with 400 or so votes in it. Even Norfolk Island (which is part of the Bean electorate) the majority of votes went to Jessie Price.

As for David Pocock, I understand he has doubled his vote and presently has 1.26 provisional quota. Katy Gallagher has yet to reach 1 but I expect she will be returned.

Angus isn't sharp enough, neither is Hastie, the Libs federally have the same problem as in W.A complete lack of talent.

Shocking display of how to lose an election, no plan, no persona, no personality makes for unelectable.

They got exactly what they deserved, it isn't as though labor had much to offer, but the fact they didn't need much shows how poor the opposition is at the moment.

Thankfully the election is over, hopefully Labor can come up with a way forward, the 'made in Australia' catch cry, needs to be turned into action.
