Tjukayirla is a fairly recent addition to the Great Central road, it was built in a deal where the Government was going to build a 'boot camp' at Cosmo Newbery to let youth offenders get back to their traditions, it all went pear shaped when the P.C brigade got involved. This is interesting, this is on the Great Central Road between Uluru and Laverton through the desert.
First thing I noticed when I got to Warakurna is that it is wide open yet Warburton and Tjukayirla both have high fences around the roadhouse, motel and camping areas
Australia's only Indigenous-run police station paving the way for remote communities
The only good thing that came out of it was the petrol station, it was a long haul from Laverton to Warburton, on a tank of fuel in the early days.
