OMG Another reminder of my decrepitude - I'm leaving.
I can still remember my first nervous posts. Then I went into a disgusting rant against an unruffable and forbearing Joe Blow because I thought some post was removed or something. Left for a few years. I was still paranoid and smarting from the authoritarian regime at hotcopper. Over there I was bundled out because I wrote that their zealously enforced rule of not criticizing the mods was like living under Koranic blasphemy laws. I've found understatement makes more impact.
 
At one stage, long time ago, I tried to arrange a "conference" (tax deductible) open to all members. Apart from the lack of interest the other thing that decided me against pursuing it would have been the sight of all the ambulances and police being called when conversations got out of hand.

Nothing much has changed really.

I have been here 20 years and 6 months.

The site has had its ups and downs but is in an up period presently.

I have to congratulate @Joe Blow for the well thought out continuous technical improvements which have resulted in a more cohesive community.
 
I'm only coming up for 16 years and as everyone knows, being a person of few words I will leave it at that.

As if.
IMO it has been and still is, the closest thing I've come to a great night out with a bunch of friends you don't actually know.
Some you disagree with, some you laugh with, but at the end of the day it is a great bunch of people to talk with.

Well I know one, Rederob and I had a catch up over a cup of coffee.
 
@sptrawler Couldn't agree more.
Fantastic group and in my case when needed a shoulder to lean on.
I also have caught up with someone personally and another via the wire and soup can line.
