I am not knowledgeable about Canadian politics but is seems like the whole story is being suppressed about a deal signed, this week, between Alberta and the US for a major oil pipeline. It is not the politics that I am interested in even though it is fascinating. It is the impact of the deal on the markets.

What impact would a direct oil pipeline from Alberta into the US have on the markets?

A dumb AI response.
Of course there is a finite number, AI just doesn't realise it's failures to say I don't really know, but here's the ones I can find on the internet. 😹

I don't think there would be a major impact at all to markets due to existing lines already in place.

A minor price impact on WTI once it's online, but not something I'd formulate a trade around.

More about shoring up future supply and making good with the next door neighbours.

Not to mention Trains, check out these monsters moving crude oil Around the USA and Canada. the train is at the 1.30 mark of the video

I own a stake in this Rail Way via my shares in Berkshire Hathaway, we move a lot of both crude oil and finished fuels around North America from Wells to refineries to customers.

it would probably more depending on what quality of oil being transported , the US is short of heavy grades of oil ( like the stuff Venezuela has ) and plenty of 'light oil '

the effect could be major ( lower diesel/transport prices )

The big question is what else it results in.

Specifically does it result in higher oil production in Canada than would otherwise have been the case? That’s where the potential big impact exists, if it results in other investments to boost production.

Bearing in mind the oil sands are capital intensive but long lived when compared to conventional oil drilling. So it needs companies and investors with a long term view.

but unless there is regime change in Canada , would you invest there ?

( i wouldn't unless there was a major shift in leadership )

you are liable to be smashed with 'green/climate' levies one the pipeline is profitable

and then there is Trump and his possible successor ( either protectionist or Globalist )

Also could this oil supply be a bargaining point with The Trumpet tariffs in the future.
There was recently an exchange between Canada and the US over imported power from Canada.
