Hi everyone,

Firstly, this place looks to be a great resource, but like anything it seems to be more about the commitment to learning that is the important skill.

I'm looking for a way to have my money work for me, something conservative somewhere in between a term deposit and losing my shirt! What books and learning tools would you recommend for a very beginner?

My aim is to be able to consistently add to an investment strategy that increases over time, and the property market at the moment doesn't appeal to me - so here i am. I'd ideally start with $20k to invest, with another 1-2k per month at my disposal.

Any advice would be helpful - feel free.

:)

Same as any other internet forum then?

Agreed, thanks for the input.

LoL so true, actually this forum has a low Muppet to members ratio so is better than most.

Anyway you do realise that we are not allowed to give financial advice here.

Yeah, no problems. Not really looking for what to buy, more a general how best to prepare and traps for young players kind of question.

Welcome to ASF, Winston.

Suggest you work your way through the Beginners' Lounge for thread titles that indicate they could be useful to you.

An excellent resource is Sir O's series of helpful suggestions for beginners.

Also, Etrade and probably other brokers have good educational sections on their websites, as does the ASX.

After you've worked your way through all the above, then I'm sure we can come up with some further material for you.
