Where Have You Been Overseas?

What a blast - a trip that you couldn't do today, unless you were on a death wish. Cheers.[/QUOTE]

There are still travellers through there. My neice is travelling with 20 others starting in the UK and heading in a modified truck all the way to Sydney. She recently just left the Kyber pass and is staying in Dehli.
She did mention Afgan was pretty hairy, though. They have a BBC cameraperson on board with them.

cheers,

Like Joe, travel is my passion in life.

I've been lucky enough to visit many of the places mentioned here, but one country that hasn't been mentioned yet, which I have been to, is Rwanda.

I was lucky/unlucky enough to deploy there with the UN for 6 months after the genocide in 1994. The highlight, apart from fixing some twisted bodies up, was trekking into the mountains on the border with Zaire to see the gorillas around the area that the movie 'Gorillas in the Mist' was filmed. Being metres away from wild gorillas is quite an experience.

Only been to Singapore. While I enjoyed it, I don't think it was that great. Most of the places I'd like to visit are long gone, some are still standing but they're only the relics.

Have lived in the following places for a few years -

Australia (majority of life)
UK (7 yrs)
USA (3 yrs)
Malaysia (4 yrs)

Travelled to and spent time in the following places -

Asia/Oceania
- Malaysia
- Thailand
- Singapore
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand

Europe
- UK
- Ireland
- Luxembourg
- Belgium
- France
- Germany
- Austria
- Switzerland
- Spain
- Italy
- Greece
- Netherlands
- Denmark
- Iceland

Others
- US
- Canada

I think that's about it for me. I have been pretty fortunate to see many parts of the world. You start to realise how small you are in this whole thing, but how incredibly accessible it all is these days(though with many things associated with the progress of man, there seems to be an fair share of negative associations with the modern wonder of travel). The missus has actually done quite a bit more travel than me – getting in more of Europe, Egypt and a three month tour/safari of Africa.

cheers

Over 15 years since the last post. So the thread has been awarded a giant spoon.

Japan is just the best. A challenging and mind expanding destination. But it ain't cheap.

Nor is a cruise ship trip through the Inside Passage in B.C./AK. But it's lifetime memorable.

For the food: K.L., Penang and Singapore. Or any department store in Japan.

Spot on Japan is excellent, one of the places in the world I will keep going back to, love it.
Had a cruise from Yokohama to Vancouver, including inside passage booked when covid hit, so still on the bucket list.
The wife and I walked over this bridge last time we were in Japan in 2019, that was interesting.

Agree with Japan being great.. Did the Kumamo Koda walk a few years ago. In early November. Too many highlights.... Best sushi steaks ever. Staying in a ryoken that was in same family 27 generations. Low impact exploring. The trains. An onsen every evening.
