hello
I'm 19 years old and at university, I make enough money to support my self but have several thousand dollars in savings from working over a gap year last year. I am thinking about investing but I am unsure about the best way to go about it I am happy to commit $5,000 dollars now and then an addition $2,000 each year and to just allow it to reinvest. would it be better to buy the stocks myself or invest in a company like AFIC and let them buy the shares for me. Hopefully, you can give me some advice.

Hi Alice,

Welcome to ASF!

There are some great threads here in the Beginner's Lounge forum on starting out in the stock market. A good place to begin might be with this thread: Where to start?

If you only have a small amount of money to start with, you might consider looking at ETFs, which are Exchange Traded Funds. You can find out more about ETFs at ASIC's MoneySmart website.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
