Truth be told not sure the Broncos can recover from this loss. Not tough enough between the ears.

I only saw the second half.

Hard to believe that the Broncos were up 14-0 at half time. Rabbits were way the better team for the half I saw.

@rcw1 , I think you're right. Something wrong with the Broncos mental toughness.

Ben Hunt didn't look good. Probably gone for at least a few weeks.

Penrith V Cowboys should be a good game. Enjoy!

I am wondering whether the training is too tough, Broncos do seem to all have tired legs.

New coach wanting to make a statement, hard yards, no frill footy is his style in the past.

A lot of unhappy players me thinks

yep could well be @macca ... Madge got some form with that...

Note the performance of the Dogs over big Ricky's Raiders, pegging back 20 points to well and truely beat em in the second half, no mean feat especially against the 2025 Raiders.

Tough and resilient is the 2025 Dogs a grand final threat for sure ... early days rcw1 knows but... impressive stuff

Struggling Broncos coach Michael Maguire has come under fire for taking his players on a Sydney Harbour cruise in the build-up to Friday night’s shock loss to the Rabbitohs.

With just a five-day turnaround after a heavy defeat in Magic Round, the Broncos players travelled to Sydney on Wednesday for an evening on the luxury multi-million dollar cruiser Ghost I, owned by celebrity accountant Anthony Bell.

Bell, who is a close friend of the Broncos coach, normally hires it out for about $1500-an-hour to the rich and famous.

The Broncos players were surprised at being asked to leave for Sydney a day early in a five-day turnaround week, not that they will say as much publicly.
Normally they finish their rehab, do a captain’s run in Brisbane, have a team barbeque and then fly to Sydney on the eve of the game.

Trust me, the players are now confused about the coach’s thinking.
Maguire is a strict disciplinarian who arrived in Brisbane to replace Kevvie Walters with a plan to change the rock star image amongst the playing group.

You’ll all remember his first edict – the six-pack ban – where the players were ordered to keep their shirts on at all times at training. “It’s about creating the environment that we’re in,” Maguire said. “I want a high standard.” They went on an army camp and players trained so hard they were seen vomiting.

And then in a complete about-face, they are taken on board the luxury cruiser. It should be pointed out that players did not drink alcohol.

Rest assured the players weren’t happy about having to leave home early for three nights in Sydney. Not when five-day turnarounds are difficult enough without interruptions to the regular schedule.

The star-studded Broncos have now lost four of their last five games after falling to an injury ravaged South Sydney on Friday night at Accor Stadium.

We’re hearing rumours that Madge’s relationships with some players are deteriorating.

The pressure is on Maguire to do something about it as the team prepares for the State of Origin series without Payne Haas, Pat Carrigan, Ben Hunt and Selwyn Cobbo.

You can guarantee there will be no more harbour cruises, although a friend of Maguire’s rang me on Saturday to try to justify the cruise.

“It was originally supposed to be a cultural experience on Fort Denison,” said the person, who asked not to be named.

“The plan was to use a water taxi but there wasn’t one that could fit the whole team.

“Then there was a problem with Maritime Services about getting onto the island.

“So Madge then contacted Anthony Bell to use his boat.

“He also arranged for Olympic champion sailor Tom Slingsby to come on board to speak to the players about the pressure in sport and having a winning mentality.”

Vision emerged of Elford squirting the ball twice with a water bottle as his side prepared to kick off to the Cowboys to start golden point in Townsville.

Purdue, 19, played much of his junior footy in the halves, but has become a fixture in the centres through the opening rounds. The move opens the door for Zac Laybutt’s return for his first NRL appearance since April 7, 2024.

Clifford has been named as 18th man, while Jason Taumalolo was left out of the reserves, signalling that he will not be returning from injury ahead of schedule. Dearden captains the side by himself, with Reuben Cotter serving the second half of his two-week suspension.

Cowboys v Sea Eagles, a home, kickoff is at 5.30pm on Saturday.

## For mine Clifford has done nothing wrong, not sure why you would want to change a winning team... at this stage.

One of Kerry Stokes' most senior lieutenants has been named as the inaugural chief executive of the NRL's Perth Bears in a sign of rugby league's ambitions to solidify its presence in Western Australia. Anthony De Ceglie, Seven West Media's Fremantle-born television boss, will take charge of the NRL-controlled Bears, Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V'landys announced yesterday. The appointment was first reported by The Australian Financial Review.

Further to this guesswork I read in today's Telegraph that Elijah Taylor said on Instagram that in his opinion there are 3 problems at the Broncos

the first is that the preseason was too hard, the second is the intensity of the whole atmosphere coming from the coach and the third is too many meetings and not enough down time.

He said "nothing worse than running out for game day warm up and your muscles are still sore from training" so this is Before the game even starts.....................

All points of concern and then "liked" by Taupau, so I guess neither of these guys will be getting a new contract at the Broncos.

I guess change was needed to the rock star mood but too much, too soon ?

Hopefully they can sort it out, a good Broncos is good for the NRL

yes makes for some interesting times. rcw1 saw an interview yesterday with Payne Haas he said all the right things and denied any issues with coach or that the coach had lost the dressing sheds... Guessing what else would he be allowed to say with a microphone in his face...

rcw1 has no doubt that Madge would be uncompromisingly tough on the players fitness etc... the question remains as to whether or not the cohort embraces what has happened on the training paddock, (preseason included) and will it hold the team in a good stead leading into the back end of the season and into the finals series. If it don't tutt ta Madge....

Madge does not appear to be a good man manager.

Take a look at Wayne Bennett, his rapport with the players is foremost in his coaching style.
