Interesting to hear on the TV news last night that some beef cuts in Japanese supermarkets are cheaper there than what the thieving supermarkets, Coles and Woolworths, are selling it for here in Australia.
Even if they gave the meat away for free for a year, they would still be a mile in front on the profit garnished over the past 18 months or so.

I have heard many instances of this also. I remember when we lived in the UK, astonishingly Australian lamb was cheaper there than here. Something not right about that

producers screwed as usual.
Going to be a big traffic jam here in Perth tomorrow as about 1500 farmers and vehicles of various descriptions slowly block the highways and byways into Perth to let the Government and peasants know we are not happy about the banning of live export.
Unfortunately, I cannot take part due to a prior engagement.

Just been having a conversation with the stock agent we use.
At yesterday's trad sale at Muchea around 400 head of cattle were up for auction, this down from the usual 2500 odd head that was the norm.
Prices for the type of stock that we breed and sell are still at around $2kg

Mate down south (cow farmer) said some time ago once Woolworths and Coles lost control of the market due to a rise in exports he was getting reasonable pricing but Woolworths and Coles retail pricing still way over the top.

Exactly, we were getting around $1900-$2200 for the same animals a couple of years ago.
Now the total amount we are getting isn't even close to break even.

Interesting article I saw recently that USA and China both took record tonnes of beef recently.
This is good news for the feed lotters and boxed meat suppliers, and it is predominantly the Euro cross that is being sourced.
On the other hand much of WA's South West is suffering drought conditions with farmers now having to sell off stock as water and feed is fast disappearing.
In my own case we are handfeeding out cattle enough to keep them in good condition as they are due to start calving shortly.
Water is also an issue with 5 dams bone dry and the other three with water but doesn't look that flash.
It's a daily worry that the water supply will stand the pressure of the stock numbers we carry until the decent rains come.
At this stage we are not entering a fire sale time zone, but by the end of this month, perhaps some stock will have to go.

Happy to see that the dollar/kilo for sheep and cattle has zoomed upward.
I have some young bulls ready to go to Muchea on Sunday, weather permitting, with a hopefully price range of $3.30-$3.50 a kg being mooted by the agent.
I feel that he is probably on the money as the sale at Mt Barker was a god one yesterday.
Only downside to getting them onto the truck with the weather as it is now forecast to be a bit more than damp.
Nothing worse than trying to load and unload uncooperative animals in adverse conditions.

Live cattle spot. I know it doesn't always translate to Muchea prices, but looking healthy nonetheless.

Been reading that American consumers are getting aggrieved over the high prices. I would not be surprised to see the 10% tariff level removed. Trump has done Australia a big favour.

HUGE. Record tonnages going to the good 'ol US of A at present.

I have a few yearling bulls lined up for the Muchea Saleyards. They were booked in for last weeks sale but the weather was not agreeable for them or me.
Rebooked for this Sunday, thinking only a couple of mm forecast, alas not to be wild, windy and wet.
Not the sort of weather that makes it easy to get them into the yards and onto the truck.
The good news is that they are putting on weight as we sell by the kg. and at present around the $4/kg mark is the average amount got.
Finally getting closer to what we should be getting
