Point Movements/Measurement

Hi Guys,

This is a completely noob question. But can someone please explain to me how the points work when they measure the movement of ASX.

Eg when they say the ASX is at 4741 up 32.8 points. How are these points dervied and from what base? What does 1 point equate to?
