Erin Patterson was sentenced to 33 years non parole for 3 counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

The prosecution intends to appeal on the grounds that the sentence was "manifestly inadequate".

The defence intends to appeal the conviction.

Given that she is guilty as charged, what do people think of the sentence given?

I thought it was fair, but I'm interested in what others think.

Death penalty as she has no value to humanity. But since we can't have her executed - put her in prison for the rest of her natural life - and provide no medical care.

Maybe she should identify as Sudanese on appeal? That's a good way to get out of being arrested or charged or adequately sentenced.

What baffles me about Ms Patterson , is why she went ahead with her fiendish poisoning plot when her number one target , the ex , smelled a rat and politely excused himself from the lavish Beef Wellington chowdown . One time her efforts in the kitchen put him in to intensive care . She must have known that after the murders of his own family , former Hubby just might twig this time , to her three attempts to do him in , similarly " à la table " .

I can only conclude that high intelligence and a good education cannot save certain individuals from making really poor choices in life . Similar mystery with Luigi Mangione and Charlie Kirk assassin , Tyler Robinson . Just not enough thought goes into getting away with the heinous crime . Maybe the rest of us can be grateful for that innate sense , most of us hold to all our lives , of being kind to others no matter what and simply living within the law . Let other people waste their lives behind bars .

What surprises me more is why he didn't warn his family off the lunch if he was suspicious.
He may well have thought that he was the target and the others were quite safe.

If he died and they lived then it was just an accident with a dodgy mushroom which just happened to be in his serving.

It has been said that they all got on quite well so he probably thought that she actually liked them and they were not at risk

Multiple murders should not be able to be served concurrently. It's a shame the taxpayer has to keep her breathing for so long.

Whilst she would probably kick the bucket in the can before turning 84, I don't feel 11 years per life extinguished is satisfactory.
20 years per life is somewhat "satisfactory".
Even 20 years for deliberately killing someone is a bit light on.

Ridiculously light sentence 11 years for killing each person and zilich for attempted murder.
The Americans have the right idea. Life means life per murder..
All that is missing is that famous pile of granite and an 8lb sledge hammer to create railway line ballast life

I'm the loner that said adequate but I am looking at it from the State view.

Holding open the possibility of parole at the age of 84 makes prisoners far easier to control.
Wouldn't worry me unduly if she was sent swinging though.

When I heard Patterson was a former air traffic controller, I was kind of pleased she only killed 3 people rather than being the headline act on "Air Crash Investigations".
Fancy a nut case like her being charge of directing an aircraft to an airport.
