Seems like a good idea. Supply lines will be short.
(Mercator has a lot to answer for)

The Happy isles of Oceania. (lol)

Another example to show how much the present Morrison government are diKheads.

In 2017, they cut all funding for shortwave and forced the ABC to shut down the Radio Australia short wave radio transmission across the Pacific. The equipment was sold for $2 million, a bargain. Also excellent savings for the taxpayer.

Guess which country bought it and now runs a propaganda service with this same equipment on the same frequency across the islands? Give you a clue, starts with C. Doesn't end with a T though it should. Why isn't this front page news??? Where is the vision?

Defund the biased ABC and declare pay to view.

Way to go Scomo! No wonder the Solomon Islands (and others no doubt) are looking elsewhere.

From five years ago, Changeorg petition to save lifesaving s/wave. Pity the number of petitioners didn't have a whole lot of zeroes at the end.

From four years ago, the Short Sightness of the sale.

Let's go subversive again...

It’s a long-gone era as the Cold War is a distant memory and citizens East and West get their info from the Internet, but perhaps there’s an echo of those times following the invasion of the Ukraine. With most external news agencies thrown out of Russia and their websites blocked, international broadcasters are launching new shortwave services to get the news through. Owning a shortwave radio in Russia may once again be a subversive activity. Let’s build one!

Short Wave radio signals are able to be bounced over the horizon.
Radio waves in the shortwave band can be reflected or refracted from a layer of electrically charged atoms in the atmosphere called the ionosphere. Therefore, short waves directed at an angle into the sky can be reflected back to Earth at great distances, beyond the horizon. This is called skywave or "skip" propagation. Thus shortwave radio can be used for communication over very long distances, in contrast to radio waves of higher frequency, which travel in straight lines (line-of-sight propagation) and are limited by the visual horizon, about 64 km (40 miles).
One just can't believe the Australian govt. let this ball drop.
