I have been following the price of Gold shares through the ETF PMGOLD the last few months. Can someone advise me how traders sell large amount of Gold shares when the Gold market tanks?

You mean the EFT or Gold Stocks or Gold Futures or??

The first Three simply log on to your Brokers platform and sell.

But very large Investors who trade in gold would be generally selling INTO strength not weakness, and Vica verca
You'll often see a volume spike (A very big one) with a spike into seemingly strength. This is where
the Pro lurks.
I just had a look at the PMGOLD chart and you can see turning points preceded by volume and range.
You will also notice Island reversals are common.
