Hello all,

I am interested in buying shares in a company. I have a rough idea on how it works. What would be the best way to do it?

Hi Chawker,

Welcome to aussiestockforums

I think the first question is: How much money are you looking at investing/punting with?

Learn how to analyze reports, balance sheets and news. Familiarize yourself with the sector your investing. Learn how to chart - technical analysis tutorials are available all over the web.

First thing you need is an account with a broker. I'm with belldirect - $15 each way trades.

You need to organize yourself a backtested strategy. Find your edge through paper trading before hiting the real market.

My first cash picks were very good, however because I handled them wrong, I missed out. Find your edge before jumping in.

Just some advice from another beginner

My advice is to find 10 or so securitys that you think have a good upside.
LEARN THEM LIKE THEY ARE YOUR OWN CHILDREN,KNOW THE HIGHS AND THE LOWS,AND TRADE THEM ACCORDINGLY AND NEVER,NEVER PLAY THIS GAME WHITHOUT A STOPLOSS IN TIME OF RADICAL WORLD ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY.
AND NEVER TRY TO CATCH FALLING KNIVES.

comsec.com.au

or

http://etrade.com.au

Are good for beginning traders.

I use both in case some boofhead pulls a plug and closes the site down when I need to place an order.

Best with your investing mate.

There are good click ons for new investors on both sites.
