Hi this is my first post please advise me If I am posting in wrong place or posting in a wrong manner.

I have been reading and learning a lot from this forum . So many wise investors sharing wisdom in this forum. Thank you for sharing great resources.

I am a small time investor since last year, I trade Japanese stocks and I use IB.

Back to the main subject.

I have been trading this particular stock in TSX, a company that specialise in finger print recognition technology. I have invested in this company because it holds great future so I am holding the stock in long position since begining of this year.

The problem began about the begining of last week when I notice this massive surge in the stock price well above the value(based on my fundamental analysis). So I turn to find news or any investor relation to find out why this has happened. Result returned nothing spectacular or nothing that would raise the stock price from $12 to $18.99 in just few days.

I believe that this share price has been manipulated by a hedge fund, word on the street said a sector fund is shorting the stock ruthless.

So I was hoping to get any advice or insight to determine what I should do.

Personally I am against shorting stock, but if the share price is being manipulated how can I use this to my advantage?

When I see this chart I can see three time of my return which I couldn't tap because I know nothing about shorting stock, Would it be wiser to learn all possible strategies in stock trading?

thank you for your time, if this thread does not belong here please delete.

Regards.

Re: hedge funds shorting stocks, how do I determine.

Here is a 3 week hourly chart.

Have a good week end.

i suspect no one has answered because its sort of like asking "how long is a peice of string?". if we all new the answer to your question then we could all just trade with the "smart money". I do agree its possible that the stock can be pushed up only to be sold into to allow a large fund a better place to sell higher, but its difficult to prove without a doubt. if you are concerned abouut the price falling, then you can hedge your risk with options.

you should read "reminisciences of a stock operator", very entertaining read on how the markets work...still applicable today....

cheers,

Thank you very much for the reply Canoz, I will check out your mentioned resource. I think I just need to hang on here, was disapointed last week but today was a sky rocket, just another chaotic week.

post the chart in the vsa thread, the volume guys might tell you that all the volume is on the bullish bars so nothing to worry about...it does seem like the price moves up when you put your foot down, a bit to be said for that IMO
