Firstly, I'm new to the stock market beast and I'm sort of looking forward to trying my luck at beating a few here in the office... (Or at least attempting to).
It's looks like a but of fun, so I'm going to give this ASX game a go. What charting packages to people use?
Would I be better trading during the day with the 'live delay' data?
I realise I can only use the trades during market times...
Do many other people use Insight Trader and end of day data for analysing trends?
Re: I'm going to give this ASX game a go and use charting programs for fun
I'm giving it a go.
Lots use EOD and lots don't. I'm trialling a system and will use that. It's EOD and seems to be OK at the moment on paper. I use the ASX charts, incredible charts and a trial version of Amibroker. Depends on what I want to do.
We have a CDIA (account) which you open with 5K but no minimum balance. No fee with that. You can download brochures that explain it all.
Live data? - Not on the charts, which can go down to daily on a one month timeframe. If you want to trade intraday, you'd need something else. Was planning on long term outlook but am working on shorter term, using EOD data. If I had to pay for live data, I'd do an advanced search in ASF - I haven't seen many, if any, mention CommSec for this.
Eventually will purchase Amibroker (have trial version) and get a feed for that.
But have signed up for OANDA FXGame to get some experience playing with live data & to embed some concepts.
We beginners have plenty of time to learn. Have already paid a price for not learning enough first up in this environment - past performance in a strong bull market did not guarantee future performance in a bear market. LOL
If you are starting out then this is an excellent source for charting and delayed (free) data.
It has all the indicators that you will initially use and then discard when you become proficient at just taking a glance at charts.
