Hi All,

Just looking for tutorials or books in getting started into shares currently I plan to read http://www.asx.com.au/resources/shares-courses.htm first of all before jumping into any books. Is there any books out there that are great to read and learn just for me as a beginner, how to begin researching and investigating a company.

Any beginner books out that anyone can recommend me ?

I currently have opened a CommSec account but I am looking for books on getting started how to invest in short-term and long-term even if there is any audio books that anyone can recommend also would be much appreciated.

Thanks In advance

Hi Elliot,

Anything written by Daryl Guppy is well worth a read. The ASX is certainly a great place to kick things off too.

Definitely recommend books by Daryl Guppy, great starting point. Good to see you starting off by using the ASX resources. The only other suggestion I'd like to make is a book called "Trading In A Nutshell" by Stuart McPhee - another great beginner's book (although it does get technical) but I'd recommend that as well.

Hope that helps. Best of luck with your trades!

Elliot, I'm not familiar with Comsec, but would imagine they offer similar to Etrade where any a/c holder can access quite useful Education information. They also have quite comprehensive information about all companies, e.g. financials, broker recommendations, yield, EPS, DPS and pretty much all you need to know.

This is a book that I would recommend. It's very easy to understand.

Stan Weinstein - Secrets For Profiting In Bull And Bear Markets

Thansk for the feedback will look into them asap anymore great beginner books or audio books?

cheers

Elliot, have you looked at what books on trading/finance your library has to offer? Books are only a small investment on the path to becoming a successful trader but very few return a dividend on the investment.
Also make use of the internet, as you are here. Sites such as Elite Trader http://www.elitetrader.com/ provide many gems and will greatly increase your knowledge (Make use of the search facility).
Spend money on software and data so you can watch market real time. Ninjatrader for instance has playback capability so you can watch the days trading as it happened when you wish. There is no substitute for screentime.
Also check out the Phantom of the Pits interview. http://www.webtrading.com/phantom/preface.htm Highly read within the trading world.

Good trades to you

Elliot,

If you haven't already, look into the Elder series of trading books (Trading for a Living, Sell and Sell Short etc etc). Personally, I trade successfully just using some of the concepts in these books. Whichever book you chose, make sure it has a section on psychology, which I found to be as important as indicator interpretation itself.

Also, look into newsletters, Huntley's have their weekly review free for 4 weeks for new subscriptions, a good read to see how and what some professionals are thinking.

Good luck :)
