Hey guys, sorry if this is a stupid question!

So I bought some shares in yesterday, let's say 10,000 units, and they all went through fine and I received my Tax Invoice for that amount.

... But I just signed into my CommSec today and the shares are now 20,000 units! It is exactly double, what the hell is going on??

I've doubled checked all my order requests and Tax Invoices and they all show the correct quantities. The transaction details and confirmation also show 10,000 units.

I've never held this company before, and this is the first time purchasing them.

As a little experiment I put in a SELL order for 20,000 units and it went through fine, so I then cancelled the order. When you don't have enough shares for the sell order, it doesn't go through and you get an error message.

So CommSec actually thinks I have 20,000 units, when I really only bought 10,000.

To be honest, I've only been trading for a month so I'm not sure if this is a common error that gets rectified on Monday. I'm not interested in ripping anyone off, what goes around comes around...

Just thought I would post here because CommSec support isn't open on weekends.

That is pretty weird, never seen it happen..its all electronic these day
so pretty hard for a human error punch in the wrong number or something like that... what is the stock code for it?

I'm sure they sort it out soon enough when someone short of 10,000 shares on his/her register, especially if it's like WOW or something :D

It must be some sort of software glitch in the system. But I am worried that they will still charge me the full amount for the 20,000 units instead of 10,000 units.

I bought some MMZ shares. It was a lot more then 10,000 though, just used 10,000 as an example.

You could try going to the My Portfolio page on Commsec, and click on most recent confirmation or most recent financial to get the details of the trade confirmation - contract no, date etc - it may just be that the transaction has been entered into their system twice in error and will be reversed once somthing doesn't balance on Monday? Either way, I'd phone them asap (or email them now) to get to the bottom of it.

Yeah already checked the most recent Confirmations and Financials, they only show the one contract going through with the 10,000 units.

A very weird problem indeed, I'll post an update on Monday after I've talked to CommSec.

why 10,000 at 3 cents a pop? $300 worth

your brokerage fee would be at least $19.95 or $29.95
that work out to be 6.5% or 10%.

that is expensive no one pay that sort of fees for any trade or share purchase, you go broke at this rate :D for you to make any money the stock has to move 20% or more

anyway I think I may work out why, they may have a minimum $500 parcel limit and your purchase under the limit so they automatically top up, assuming you got them at 2.5 cents a share :)

Better ring them and check it out Monday :D

Please read my above posts again....

Hey there ! I'm having the exact same problem here and was wondering how did yours go eventually?

Another example of Commsec weirdness.

I bought some BDA yesterday, waited until I saw the confirmation then placed a sell order in the market the same day as I bought them. I was hoping to take advantage of a spike higher the next day (just in case). Unfortunately the next day spike failed to get to my sell order. As I was looking at the portfolio I noticed that the BDA holding is not in the list.

I'm thinking that because I bought it and placed a sell order the same day, the holding didn't make t to the portfolio list. Weird.
Normally the holdings with sell orders placed are shown as "0" in the list and the value isn't included in the portfolio total. Weird but normal.

Another example of Commsec weirdness.
The same weirdness happens with Westpac, so the software provider should look into it. (IRESS)
Once settlement occurs, it will show in portfolio list as 0 as you have said.
What's weird is when you purchase X quantity, but 2x appears in your portfolio, with the extra qty only to disappear within a minute if one keeps refreshing the page to observe.... have found this only happens when on a decent streak.
Helps with purchasing "power", but makes me feel like I'm piggybacking the devil for free...
