A few days ago my wife told me she got an email from the Bendigo Bamk saying they were paying us $1995 because of an error they had made. I immediately thought this was just another very clever scam to suck people into forwarding Bank details/information etc.

We ignored it.

Today we received a credit for $1995 in our account.

Anyone else received a payment yet ?

I went back and read the email and yes it was very banky. And there is a very good reason why Bendigo Bank and other banks are ponying up.

But not every bank is playing ball.

What sort of fees were you paying Baz?

I'm with Great Southern Bank, members owned, no fees. Won't get a cent. :(

No fees?
Yes and no as per the fees on Everyday and Savings accounts.

If one is considering this bank need to be aware that there are fees and charges.
Like this e.g.,
All Transaction Accounts
GSB Transaction accounts may be charged an upfront fee for withdrawals and balance enquiries when using some ATMs (including rediATMs), which will be determined by the third party ATM owner. The fee will be disclosed and charged by the ATM owner at the time of performing the transaction.

Yea, but that's only if you go to one of those ATMs that charge a fee, and they have to tell you.
Not a Comm bank/ ANZ/NAB ATM for instance. No fees there.

Reply to the oversight from the thieving bank.
So sorry to say that the unforeseen deposit has been spent on fast cars and even faster women.

Re Post #8 apologies to any ladies who may have read this post.
I am not suggesting in any way that any of you are in this category!!!!!

This one is from America in 2021. Man finds $50 billion in his bank account compliments of Chase Bank. He gave it all back to the bank.

He was an instant billionaire for 4 days

I rang today to check out what the story was. In fact it had nothing to do with fees

Back in Feb 2016 I took out a short term loan of $160k . We had bought a property and needed to settle other assets to fully pay for the property.

The loan was paid off about 6 months later and it seems they had incorrectly calculated the interest. We were overcharged $1044.48 and the bank added $951.16 in compensatory interest. Apparently someone had discovered this calculation error and discovered that 225 customers were also similarly overcharged. Obviously the amount would depend on the size and length of the loan.

I understand from our conversation that this remediation has nothing to do with the current fees ect dispute that has been resolved.

It is interesting though to realise Banks can and do make mistakes. I wonder how many are in favour of the customer ?
