There are multiple countries engaged in military exercises in Australia atm. and this big boy just flew over my house, reasonably low but climbing having come out of a departure turn then beguilingly slow seeming just heading off in to the distance.

Long live the Western Alliance. this is a pic from Wikipedia, I was more interested in watching it than taking a photo.

Here is the C5.

We deployed to Rwanda in C5s thanks to the US. This was back when we had no strategic lift. Much more comfortable than sitting in the C130 netting and they even had hosties providing meals. Stopped in Diego Garcia for a refuel on the way which was interesting.

@Sean K There are Ospreys in Townsville atm.

I saw a fleet of 3 which came over the house about 2 years ago. An absolutely magnificent sight.

We are not in a flyover zone usually except when military exercises are on in Townsville but the airport is officially a military airport which allows civilian aircraft to use it, traffic controllers are all RAAF .

Pretty impressive looking aircraft. Never seen one before.

I went for my morning walk this morning by the Ross River and was fortunate to see two Osprey V-22's come low over the river and swing close to the middle reaches of Mt. Stuart to land at Lavarack Barracks.

Given the subsequent songs of Butcher birds and Magpies it was an invigorating experience. I really should go for a walk every day. "They" say it makes one live longer and better, with less depression.

My Moodle demands I take her for a walk every morning. If I don't she just sits in front of me and stares me down until I give in. Once I'm out the door I start to enjoy the trees and the green and watching her sniff and fake wee on everything. I get home with a smile on my face invigorated for the day. "They" might be correct. :) You should buy a dog gg.

@Sean K Just wondering if the "hosties" were anything like the one that the one and only @Garpal Gumnut posted alongside the photo of the C5

We have Zeus who is a very spoilt German Shepherd, not a bad guard dog and gives us much joy.

Labradors and Shepherds have been our companions since the children were little. I agree they give much love.
