Much has been posted here on Capital Gains Tax (CGT)
Best place to find out about CGT is the Australian Tax Office (ATO)
They have a website. ato.gov.au
You can ring them or write them or visit an ATO office.
Better to get a tax accountant.
Cost probably $60 and above, tax agent $45 and above.
You'll pay slightly more but than the cost is tax deductable the next financial year.
All my tax preparations are done on Excel spread sheet. There is a "Question" tab.
Example: Can Visa Card Statement be use as proof of purchase ? Yes
Is Trading Date or Settlement Date the date of transaction? ????
Etc, etc
Very time consuming looking for answers when tax time comes.
Here is an article in the Aust. Financial Review that will be of interest to everyone.
For the past 3 years I've always had problems working out tax around shares.
This year I found a document located on the ATO website and It's really explained things clearly to me for once. The example that starts on page 12 is extremely clear.
