For me:
Stock needs to be in a clear uptrend or has clearly broken upwards from a downtrend.
Stock needs to have a white candle close.
Stock needs to be trading above its 200dma.
A bit of volume on the breakout would be nice, but is not mandatory.
Generally, the more times the resistance has been tested and failed, the more impressive and outstanding the break will be.
A set-up i like very much is a stock that has been range trading for several months on low volume then breaks out and closes above the range (on volume)
Examples: AED a few months ago and SEK recently.
