Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but im new to this can someone explain market depth to me i see it alot but dont understand what it means thanx

Market Depth is the outstanding buying and selling orders in the SEATS computer at any particular time for the shares of one class in a company at each of various price limits. (Renton's Dictionary of Stock Exchange & Investment Terms)
 
Here's an example from the NAB online trading site for QBE.

This just summarises the quantities at each price, but by selecting market detail, the individual orders at each price can be seen.
